where can I find 1/16 thick 1075/1080/1084

In those steels, .125" is probably the thinnest you'll find. Try AEB-L. It comes thin and is stainless to boot. I call it stainless 1070.

You could also try 15n20, it goes down to the 1/16" and works well for kitchen blades. I get mine from Aldo at New Jersey Steel Baron.

does anyone know where I can purchase 1/16 thick 1075/1080/1084?
I am making a wood carving knife which is why I want a thin blade. This is the first knife I am attempting to make which is why I choose 10x steel. I have read that it is easier to heat treat. I have found o1 at a very good price in 1/16. My blade will only be 1.5 inches long. Can i do a proper heat treat on o1 at home with a propane torch, magnet and canola oil? The blade is small at 1.5 inches long and 1/16 thick. I am not looking for perfection, just a knife of my own design that I can carve wood with.

I would simply grind a 0.125" piece thinner since it will be so small. I would use my magnet to hold it flat against the platen, and grind until you're happy with it.

Hi Benjamin,

I thought about that but i do not have a grinder, I will be using a hand file. My thought is if I make more than one blade they will be more consistent at 1/16 using a hand file.
