My first suggestion would be a Randall model four with a seven inch blade and a good pocket knife.

For a lot less money, you can by one of those scandanavian knives with the laminated blades. I've used the same one for over thirty years. I can slice soft tomatos or whittle tent pegs with it. I think I paid less than five dollars for it.

I forgot to mention what has become my FAVORITE food prep campknife: an Opinel #12. This has a blade similar to the Cliff knife I posted a link to above and it is an outstanding knife to have around the camp. No, you won't chop the forest down with it but...let me see you slice potatoes, onions, tomatoes or some fresh baked camp bread with your Battle Mistress or RTAK. I'll be done eating before you get the first tomato sliced.

Gonna butter your bread with a RTAK. I wanna watch! Salad fixin's with a Battle Mistress? I really wanna watch!

And when you start making those nice, silver-dollar sizes venison filet mignon steaks from the backstrap, good luck with your 1/4" thick, 5 lb knife. And be careful when you mince the garlic.

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

I have been involved in tests of camp knives.
Some of the BKT knives are designed by MS abs folks

I like the camillus BKT line alot . I wached the heat treating process at the factory . They do it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great knives you can depend on.

I like Newt's stuff but the HKR is HUGE. Unless you have the hands of a lowland gorilla, try the RTAK
