I need help finding some DVD's for a Journeyman Smith friend of mine. He makes his on damascus, but wants to do more advance patterns. So if any one can tell me were I can purchase the how to do advance damascus patterns it would help a lot. Thanks

Jim Hrisoulas' book The Pattern Welded Blade is a great book and talks about several patterns.

I've heard that JD Smith's Videos are good, but I haven't seen them yet.

The best thing your friend can do in all honesty is go to hammerins. Batson's hammerin at the end of this month will have a lot of folks who know a lot about patterning in attendance. I REALLY wish I could make it down there, but finances this year won't allow it :(

Ed Caffery has a good vdieo out http://www.caffreyknives.net/Videopage.html . I took a class from JD Smith and am seriously thinking about getting his video also. He explains it in such a way you can usually deconstruct a damascus pattern just by looking at it. Still really nice to have a video or book to refer back to.

Jacob - While that is a good site, they do not have what he wants. He is looking for advanced pattern info.
While he has no video, giving Chris Marks a call or visit (down on southern Louisiana) will get you a lot of info on very advanced methods. He is a great person, too.

When you say more advanced patterns, are you referring to mosaic Damascus?

I have read very good reviews of Ed Caffrey’s video
Covering -radial pattern, basket weave pattern, jelly roll pattern, and accordion folds

Ed's video can be rented at :

same video as refered to by AC Richards

If this is not what you had in mind, what patterns were you intersted in?

Perhaps this is a good question for Boone, He lists many, many fantastic patterns in his titanium mokume
