Ok, maybe I'm just having a brain fart. Will these two sheaths work without modification?
I don't know, I'm not a retailer; you need to go back and read the thread carefully.
What I have done is give you my observations on using sheaths from other companies for the RW 1/4" model.
On the Ka-Bar/Becker BK-7 sheath I bought back in December (see Ka-bar link in post 1), the snap will not close, strap is too tight. That one actually shipped with a BK-7 that I bought for my son. But like I said in post 13; the one I bought last week from Fleabay fits my new 1/4" RW perfectly! I guess the retainer strap on this newer one is a bit longer and sure enough it snaps just fine with no modification required. Are the retainer straps on all BK-7 sheaths going to be longer like this? I don't know, but like I said before, the snap could be replaced/shifted if required.
The sheath that HK linked appears to be like the one on my Ontario RD-7; and that one fits my RW also. But to be clear, my RD-7 sheath was purchased maybe 2 years ago, and I have not tested the new units from Knifecenter in HK's link. Since that one uses velcro, I would say your chances of success are better with HK's link vs. with the snap version from Ka-Bar. Obviously, a velcro strap is going to be more 'forgiving' in fit, vs. a snap style.
These sheaths are probably made in batches, and there is probably going to be some variation in strap length, insert thickness, etc from one batch to the next. It's a box of chocolates, but the ones I have here worked out great, and for very little cost.
Basically, we are just trying to give you some economical options, so your results may vary.
I feel ya on the confusion. It would be so much easier if Swamp Rat would simply include a sheath with their product. But they don't. So it is what it is.
Hopefully as people try different solutions, they will post their findings here so others will benefit.
