I see people talking about using various tool cases for knife storage, the kind of cases that come with the pluckable foam. I need some foam like this, a solid slab not the pluckable kind, for a project I'm working on. I've done some internet searching and haven't found anything yet. Searching on the internet I mostly find industrial suppliers. I've seen the white or beige foam that is used for upholstery, I'd like to find the dark gray kind.

Heck, WalMart probably has a ton of it, used for crafts and cushions. Ask in Crafts department.

Make sure it will take the heat ! I happened to have some silicone rubber which is fine for heat but is very expensive.

Sears used to carry foam for lining their toolboxes with, kinda expensive, but good stuff. Dark grey, almost black.

Whatever you get, just make darn sure it's NOT hygroscopic, or you'll rust the bejabbers out of whatever you're putting in there. (Knives, I assume)

Good luck with your project....
