Looking for 1/16" s35vn or similar. But am interested in any 1/16" stainless.

Thanks,
Ross

Aldo njsteelbaron.com had 1/16 AEBL. Not sure what other grades he has in that thickness.

Aldo also has the CPM 154, CPM S35VN and the regular cast 154CM in that "thick 1/8 ".065/.072 thickness. Chuck at Alpha has the .072 in CPM S30V. As previously mentioned, that is a common size for AEB-L and both guys have it.

Ever since ATS-34 dried up, been looking for a replacement, higher end steel. Feel much better now, thanks for the options.

Thanks again,
Ross

Up until now I thought CPM 154 properly heat treated was tougher than CPM S35VN. Now I find charts that indicate different(conflicting) degrees of toughness for each steel. I will be testing soon and would like to hear from others concerning the relative merits of these two steels. Toughness is very important for my application

Thanks in advance,
Ross

Most of the charts that I have seen say that CPM 154 is still bit tougher but has less abrasion resistance. The CPM S35VN supposedly has about the same abrasion resistance as S30V, but with increased toughness due to the addition of niobium.

Thanks for the answer, how does AEB-L compare to CPM 154?

Great place for advice, love the help.

Thank you,
Ross

AEB-L is a Razor steel by design and is near stainless but grinds like a carbon steel. I use it and CPM-154 for my culinary knives.

A thin blade like you want starting with 1/16th thick steel would be fine in AEB-L

CPM 154 is twice the cost of AEB-L. Of these two steels, which is tougher? I will be making machetes from the material.

Thanks again,
Ross

Shrubs and general yard work, good for camping. Can be used on 1"-2" saplings. See some examples at akiblades.com. Hey Chuck, i'm very interested in AEB-L. Any other information on this steel? Heat treating data? Links?

Thanks,
Ross

Some late night surfing found HT data and positive comments about AEB-L steel. I will test some CPM154 and AEB-L in both coupons and live blades.
Please keep the information flowing,

Thanks for all the help,
Ross
