BladeHQ was generating a ton of great content on YouTube and it’s ground to a halt for three months. Any idea what’s happening there?

Right. One balisong promo video and a couple others, compared to a very steady stream of content. Just curious if they had layoffs or shutdown that department. I’m aware not everyone likes retailers making content and a lot happens on Instaface these days.

Who knows. I use to watch there videos pretty often. They were at blade show and looked like they were filming/interviewing but i dont know.

Like most places, might be dealing with staffing or supply issues. We are having major supply chain issues and have grabbed folks for all different departments to help out. Videos are probably pretty low on the priority list overall.

They definitely had a different culture to them than KnifeCenter, with BladeHQ channel going hard on the we're fun people with knives vibe over details; especially in the last year or so. It was a bit frustrating, since you knew that the people in the BladeHQ vids knew a lot if they went into things, but the focus seemed to be more on entertainment. It's a bit strange to see the BladeHQ channel going silent these days, more so during Blade Show. I only prefer KnifeCenter because they're more detail orientated and David C Anderson is one of the few knife reviewers with big hands. The small handed knife reviewers and their disdain for larger knives just don't have the same appeal for me on the whole, especially on the subject of ergonomics. The downside of both the KnifeCenter and BladeHQ channels is that they're both there to hype and sell knives, so they're not going to give you the kind of feedback on deficiencies that some reviewers will (although some established I'm just here for the knives reviewers are often paid shills too).

Video content creation isn't as easy as people think it is. Without likeable hosts like Ben, people lose interest in watching. It's also a lot of work to create and edit high quality videos. They probably just don't have the people or resources for it. I have noticed BHQ falling off as arguably the most popular knife retailer. I haven't even been able to load the thumbnail images on the new items page for like a week, and I do not have that problem with any other knife retailer website.

When Ben left the quality of the content tanked imo.

This.

I stopped watching shortly after Ben left. Lately I dig KnifeCenter’s videos by David C. Anderson. You can tell he has as a passion for knives, and is quick to the point. Other than that I check out Shabazz’s videos for size comparisons and specs that I missed.

I liked bladehqs "bros hanging out" vibe but their videos started sucking majorly after a while.

I think bladehq did my favorite video of the pm2 with late boyscout or whatever his name.

Batoning through a tree only to have the tree fall over completely after like 30 minutes...in the snow....up a mountain. I bet that filmed to suck only to have it all go wrong anyways.

Okay, veering slightly off-topic (but only slightly), I think Blade Forums should put on its own show. Spark, you getting this? I know you listen in from time to time...

Anyway, since most people can Zoom, here's what we do:

Tell everyone on BF that, "we are thinking about putting on a weekly knife show in the form of a 1 - 2 hour video. We are looking for volunteers to guest host each week (2 people with occasional guests) using Zoom. If interested let us know, and when you might be available. We will discuss our ideas in-depth with the volunteers."

And, not being a maker, we can review knives in a more unbiased way and WE CAN ACCEPT ADVERTISING FROM KNIFE BRANDS. (That'll get Spark on board).

thoughts?
