Where did the BK-15 go wrong?

Zaper, trailing points were indeed more in favor back when people actually used their knives in the woods - back when a knife was for preparing food, field dressing then skinning animals, filleting fish, making fuzz sticks and light batoning of kindling.

Those were the days. You must be an old timer too ... cheers to us and those like us, as they say at my local brew pub.

What an awful shame. I thoughtnthe 5 and 15 were easily the best looking knives in Becker's line up.

Everyone talks about how versatile the drop point is, and how perfect the 16 is. I also love a good drop point, and it is what most of my fixed blades tend to be. And yet - the 15 is my favorite fixed blade. It's really hard to explain why - which is probably part of the reason so many people never considered it.

For me it was timing. At the first gathering, we were some of the first to get to use what ended up being the production model. It was a great knife. It did a lot of things really well. I didn't love it though because OMG dat 16!!! As time went on, I came to love the BK15 in it's own right, right after it was discontinued. I stole one from Pointy, then gave it back, and have only just acquired a new one a couple of days ago. That being said, she is a beauty of a blade, and if I find anymore around for a reasonable price, I will have to have them.

i was holding out for D2 BK15s or even s30v.

you, right now, reading this, failed this knife. it didn't fail. you failed it :D

you failed me ;)

that said, Fisk has a knife s30v "steak knife"...

i'd like to think that i had something to do with the 15, and i'm VERY sad more were not sold.

Bladite, I failed the knife.

Truth be told, I'm just kind of "meh" about trailing point.
When it comes to a "woods knife" I much prefer a drop point.
My BK16 is my workhorse. If I was only allowed to have one filed knife, that would be it.

Straight-spining the BK-15 is easy, and if you remove the waddle, the choil just becomes part of the handle (see below for both):

Pretty much this. I was a little late to the boat, but I've really come to appreciate the 15. It was, unfortunately, a bit too late though. Eventually I'll probably try to track down another one to use more since I've been babying the stamped smooth 15 I have.

I got into BK&Ts just before they were discontinued and was lucky enough to score a few before the prices went crazy. I definitely love the BK5 and BK15, but ones in s30v would be awesome as limited editions.

Everyone hang your heads in shame. For we have all failed the BK 15. Not one of us is free of guilt!

I have 2, I am guilt free. But its not to late to acquire a 4, 5, and 17 Well the 17 is climbling in price.

Bladite you've let us down, Becker down, and most of all yourself down.....

....how do you sleep at night?

I've owned 6 all together. Down to 4 now. Possibly 3 soon. I feel ok. I bought my first before they went on clearance.
