Where do you EDC all your "stuff"? In your pockets or on your belt?

Can you believe I got a comment at work the other week when I took out a non locking SAK to open a parcel... :barf:

Same as I got when I cut a sandwich with a BM710

I have a nylon belt pouch I used for a while but my girlfriend was always picking on it saying I looked like a nerd so I went back to pocket stuffing :grumpy:

Does anyone wear anything like a lightweight waistcoat for extra pocket space? I've often thought it could work well as its not as obvious youre packing loads of stuff, but whenever I mention it I get the nerd speech again... :grumpy:

5.11 pant - excellent fun

Also worn a photographer waistcoat - but in black it looked like a flak jacket.

Now this guy has a really neat vest/waistcoat whatever.

all into pockets except two things: I clip my Hideaway Knife to my undershirt so I can reach through my button shirt and draw it in a heartbeat if I need it for utility purposes, and my Blackberry is carried in its belt holster.

I can't play Batman with a straight face so I don't even try :p

I try to put as much as I can in my pockets, but I still usually have something on my belt(usually a SAK). Everything else goes in my pocket. I even prefer to carry my Kel-Tec in a pocket holster.

Hi All-

The only thing that rides on-body is my knife. Both pocket and belt carry makes me feel somewhat clumsy and encourages somewhat of an elephantine gracelessness. Everything else resides in a bag that is always with me. I'm talking without fail...like within three feet.

The suggestions given by the man named "Schwert" in the hyperlinked post by SOA above are all excellent, but seem somewhat unrealistic outside of a known combat or disaster zone. As long as you are up to it physically, there is nothing wrong with carting around a fairly comprehensive kit. The best case scenario is that you'll never need it and you'll just increase the strength and stamina of your arm and shoulder muscles!

Worst case scenario, you've got everything you need to help yourself and others in an emergency. For the people who looked at your funny with regard to knives, flashlights, dustmasks, and water...well to whom are they turning now? ;)

Mostly pockets for the small stuff. Pistol and phone go on the belt and occassionaly a Wave or SwissTool, but those usually go into my County Comm Tactical Purse....er, I mean BRIEFCASE :D

When I was in LE I couldn't stand having too much stuff on my belt, so I carried the minimum. Even today, I don't even like carrying a fanny pack.

My Swisschamp is in a belt pouch next to cell phone (Kyocera 7135 PDA/phone combo). I also carry a PocketWrench II in the same pouch.

In my left pocket I made myself a leather pouch that carries a Longbow Micra, spare battery, Blazer micro-torch, Squirt P4, Kershaw Chive, Space Pen and some cash.

Oh, and Small Sebenza in waisband behind the cell phone. ;)

I posted some pics from my current EDC gear in this thread.

Phone and wallet goes into two pockets, being very flat and light.

Watch on wrist, ring on finger and pen in shirt pocket.

The only thing that goes on my belt is my discreet and sheeple friendly pouch. It contains the Leatherman Wave, Victorinox Signature, Photon and Cricket lighter. I carry a lighter even though I am a non-smoker and married (so it's not for picking up female smokers either. ;))

my current edc stuff

*emerson CQC8 or BM skirmish or pat crawford perfigo RF pocket. also car keys and a arc AAA lite and a spy capsule w/meds.

*punch M2 in my LF pocket, also a spyderco delica SE

*wallet in RR pocket.

*surefire E2d on my belt in a surefire pouch, also my cell is in a pouch on my belt, also carry a kahr PM9 in a galco IWB holster RS, spare mag in my LR pocket. occasionally carry a glock 33 w/a +2 floorplate (12 rounds in all) and a spare 13 round mag w/a +2 also (15 rounds), oh and gen'ly carry either kahr or glock, not both lol, though i have!!

carry everything else in my pack w/a spec ops pack rat organiser. this includes surefire M3, spare SF batts, leatherman juice, SAK ranger, mont blanc and fisher pens, shades, spare knife (BM 800S AFCK), another spare mag, digi-camera, scratch pad, biz cards, black book phone book, advil

I like all you folks--you make me feel I'm not that crazy... ;)

In business attire, I usually have all the pockets I need for gear (with sports coat and overcoat in winter time). Gear includes two cell phones (one work, one personal) and pager (all on belt); Surefire E2D, CMG Infinity Ultra, iPaq PDA, folded bandana, I.D. badge, and stainless steel Parker pen in coat pockets; and Wenger SE Esquire SAK, PT Eclipse light, storm whistle, garage door fob, and myriad keys in my front pockets (as well as chapstick and mint-strips... :)). My job requires that I visit high-security government facilities, so I generally never carry a knife more aggressive than the Esquire. My rear pockets have wallets (one is a throwaway).

When not working, I add a larger folding knife IWB (usually a Massad Ayoob), small OC spray canister, and maybe a second folder (Dodo or Calypso Jr.), but I lose my pager and second cell phone (whew!). A sportier jacket with sufficient pockets takes care of the other gear. In the dog days of summer, I replace the jacket with some sort of fanny pack or small courier bag.

My wife just shakes her head and wonders what happened to me in my childhood to make me this way...

What model of SAK and what kind of comment? I will pull out my Victorinox Midnite MiniChamp II, but it's so small no one has ever said anything.

Don't know what to day, dude. I thought I looked nerdy a few weeks ago. I had my SureFire E1e, Inova X5-T, and cell phone all riding on my belt. I asked my wife how I looked. She said I looked prepared. No wonder I married her. :)

Yes. I've been wearing a Marinac Jac from Land's End as a sort of indoor jacket. I wear it underneath my peacoat when I go outside. This garment is very handy. I've stuffed the pockets with a CMG Infinity Ultra, a Princeton Tec Eclipse, an Victorinox Alox Pioneer, a Kershaw Silver Spur, and a few other tiny goodies. I'm thinking of getting the vest version for when warm weather comes back.

Well, I put everything into my pockets exept LM Wave on weekends which is in it's nylon pouch on the belt. On the weekends I also use my Nikko waist bag to put my wallet.

Doesn't someone make a vest (waistcoat) with a bunch o' hidden pockets? I was thinking something like that might be handy on some occasions, though I don't carry nearly as much stuff as some folks here.

I try to keep it limited to what I can comfortabley keep in my pockets. I will carry on my belt if I have to.

I carry a Victorinox Mountaineer, its got everything I need apart from a philips screwdriver, and currently its legal to carry in this country.

The comment I got was 'typical networking guy, pulling out a massive knife to open a parcel'

If only I had my Microtech with me... :D

Sounds like a good idea. Great choice of light too (the CMG!)!

She sure is. She puts up with all my flashlights and pocketknives. We celebrated 13 years of marriage this December 28. We had to sit down and get out the calculator to add up the years. We couldn't believe it. We still feel like newlyweds. :)

Ditto.

I have three pouches plus a holster on my belt.

I know you told me once, but could you elaborate again what you carry in your pouches and holster? I admit I have quite forgotten.

Then I fill the pockets of my cargo pants.

Are cargo pants suitable for office wear? How "dressy casual" are they?

You might be thinking of the SCOTTeVEST. I believe Joe Talmadge has mentioned these.
