Do you folks purchase aluminum for creating test blades? If so where do you get it?

I get my steel directly from Crucial.. but I don't think they sell aluminum.

Most places want to sell large lots.. any ideas?

Actually I user 1/8" micarta. I get it from TKS and it's just a couple of bucks for a 6 X 12" sheet.

Well now that is interesting... do you not loose something because it is not metal colored?.. or do you spray paint it?

Im not a knife maker (yet), but tend to make just about everyting else in the world out of metal. Whenever I need alum for something (very rarely) there is a scrap yard by me that just deals in alum. Theyve got just about every alloy in every thickness you could imagine and the tools (press, brake, etc) to work the bigger stuff for you if need be. Try the yellowpages maybe... If any of you guys are in or near Denver, lemme know and Ill give you the 411..

with the cost of most metals up i would go the micarta way also

color does not matter

get some paint stir sticks and grind on them

i use more 3/32 and 1/16 stock then any other size
and yes you can grind bevels on them (there just not as tall)
the key is get something cheap that's the thickness you will be using
