Hi-

Just wondering where you guys keep your knives? Mine are in their respective boxes in a shoebox. Except, of course for those that are actually on me.

Just curious,

Ditto the post before this one.

First post of the new year, and I'm already having to worry about a body, damn...

In a Houndouran mahogony and birds-eye maple knife chest. The chest is mahogony, six drawers made of heavily figured birds-eye maple, divider into six compartments, lined with velvet. A one of a kind piece. There are some distinct advantages to making fine furniture for a living

I'll try to put a few pics up, until then I can email them to anyone who's interested (big files though).

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

The ones I use for daily cary are kept either on me or the night stand next to my bed. Knives I don't carry daily and my carving knives are in a crafsmen toolbox on my workbench. I don't have a collection or any customs though. Just users.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

I use to just have them laying around, but my wife was tired of that so for Christmas she gave me a very nice cherry box from The Bombay Company. So thats where I keep my knives now.

I keep mine in a laundry basket on the front lawn, next to which I've set up a sign that says "Razor's Knives: Don't Steal." It was the most secure set-up I could think of, next to using the internet to tell the entire world where I keep all my valuables.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

You know what, forget I asked.

Like I'm really going to find out where you live and try to "get" your knives.

If you don't want to answer, fine- don't.

I was curious, as I think I keep mine in a rather low-buck location considering all the money I have wrapped up in them. Thought I'd get some ideas on where others keep theirs.

So don't worry about your laundry basket- I won't be around anytime soon...

clip point I think you had a valid question, so here you go:

No one is going to come over here and steal my knives, not without … well you know graphic violence, blood, entrails, you get the picture.

Most of my knives stay in a display box that my wife got for me. A few of my favorite such as the Police model spydee my wife got me for xmas '95 are stored in a protective pouch that bladeforums tomw makes. I have 3 of those, classy looking little pouches for my more classy knives.

Hi Clip,

LD, that's a very handsome cabinet!!!

I store my auto knives open, wrapped in small-bubble wrap, in a portable file cabinet. I keep it near my safe...

Any boxes I have I fold them flat if applicable and store them in a shoe carton. My classier blades go in silicon treated cotton knife rolls as do most of my using knives. I always have a few at random on my desk/ drawer tops so I can switch depending on the mood and application. I try at all costs to keep my knives OUT of any type of plastic wrap. Corrosion can set in if they are stored long term especially if they are not properly treated. Sheathed fix blades goes in similarly large size rectangular cotton pouches and are stored in ammo cans.

Hi clip point, I have two glass display cases one for misc knives 12X18 and one for small Daltons and Microtechs 18X24. I like to be able to see them and not hide them away. http://www.customdisplays.com/

Very good topic! About 6 months ago, it hit me all of a sudden, that it was pretty dumb to leave several thousand dollars worth of knives sitting on a bookshelf. The next day I got 3 fireproof safes and began storing them there-theft is not the only danger. I always tuf cloth all before any anticipated long term storage, even stainless. The only knives I keep sheathed are RJ Martins in the mahogany lined sheaths, all kydex and leather stays away from the blades.

One more thing, if you have a pile of $ into your knives, it's imperative to have photographic evidence, even documentation from sales or trades, obviously stored in a different location. There isn't an insurance company in the world that would believe the cost of most decent collections without some type of proof.
