Having been away from the forum for a few weeks, I was surprised by the rudeness, personal attacks and general meanness that, while around for some time, is clearly escalating.
Have we come to use our PC's like a 3-ton Lincoln, changing lanes and wreaking havoc on a whim? Is this the "best of the best" that this generation can deliver when discussing man's oldest tools?
I find most of the forum posts very useful, but not at the cost of absorbing the internet pollution that comes with the level of discourtesy allowed here.
I joined the forum in the cause of becoming part of a community of fellow knife-lovers whose zeal to discuss, possess and trade knives was above that of the guy next door.
I now find that we are no better than the common man. We hold no ideals sacred. We wreck a man's reputation with a keyboard rather than a sword. We offer opinions without knowledge and where none is requested.
If some of the attitudes expressed in the safety of net anonymity been expressed face-to-face, a duel surely would have ensued. It used to be that way. For less insult. A head would have accompanied the body for the mere suggestion of insult to a sword-wielding Samurai
I don't request that you clean up your act, if you think I am talking about you, I only request that you don't employ the same unsavory behavior in your face-to-face verbal exchanges. Someone with thin skin and quick reflexes might absent your future opinions.
"Courtesy is everything"--Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
"Ruby Ridge proved how far we have come from the Constitutional idea of Liberty. If we pursued the guarantees of the 2nd Amendment with as much zeal as we seem to utilize the safeguards provided by the First Amendment, the right to defend one's family and honor would never be a matter of debate"--Padraig Sullivan
