Forgive my rant, I just need to get this off my chest.

In the last week, I have:

  • Marked an item sold, then didn't hear from the buyer again. Oh, and by the way, my sale post clearly indicated that I was in some serious need of Christmas money.
  • Replied to several trade posts via e-mail (and a post), and didn't get the courtesy of a reply.
  • Sent an e-mail to someone who indicated interest in a particular class of knives, of which I had one for sale. Received no reply.

My last e-mail was two days ago. All, except for one, have found time since then to get online and post at BFC. But not enough time to bang out a simple reply!

I know it's not my e-mail provider, since I am receiving other e-mails.

Is it so friggin' hard to type out a simple "thanks, but I'm not interested at this time?"

By the way, the people I sent these e-mails to? All of them have been praised here on GB&U...

[rant mode = off]

Thanks for letting me get that one off my chest...

Hey Eric...

Yeah I know, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things...I'm only out some time.

Never had this happen to me before, then all of a sudden no one's replying to e-mails...

But I feel better already :)

Starfish, thank you for meminding me that it is important to show common courtesy to everyone. It sometimes takes me a couple of days to get back to someone that emails me, but I always make sure to get back to someone, even if it is just to say I am not interested. Even though this is something that I do, it is good to be reminded from time to time that people always appreciate being treated with common courtesy.

Yeah a nice little wake up call. There have been times where I've sold an item and had an email to come in several days later and instead of responding to it I simply delete it..........not a very good practice and certaintly not common courtesy! I'll try and remember this post everytime I open my mailbox!:)

Thanks for bringing it up Starfish.

I feel the same way, and have been guilty in the past as well...:o
Thanks for the reminder!:)

Courtesy? Heck I would settle for common sense. Bought a nice knife from an excellent company which was "LNIB". It shows up with lots of fine scratches on the steel pocket clip, not my idea or version of lnib. So I wrote the seller and got told "since you got a good deal, what does it matter?" Guess if you buy a car and the backseat is covered in used condoms or beer bottles, hey why gripe since after all you got a good deal on the car. Now when I see the same person post a new or like new knife I sort of wonder - just how new? Found in the back seat of a taxi new or dropped on the sidewalk new or just what?
I would rather underdescribe an item so the buyer is happy with what she or he sees than to overdescribe it and have them go what the heck is this guy thinking? Has it cost me some sales? Probably has but I figure it is better in the long run to surprise people than to disappoint them.

CarlHK - good point.

There's definitely more to courtesy than the one aspect that I brought up. I have only been subjected to that treatment (poor assessment of knife condition) once, and the other guy gladly made good on it.

P.S. Bobby B, you know you're alright in my book! And besides that, parents of newborns get a 1-year supply of "Get Out Of Jail Free" cards ;) :D :p
