Where has everybody gone?

I think its a cycle: when Uncle went to Nepal things stayed lively for awhile, and then started to taper off while awaiting Uncle Bill's arrival. No sooner did he get back and up to speed, and BOOM--heart attack. People lay low to give him a rest, and because they know he's not here, and then it gets slow--its slow so nobody drops in to post--gets slower and slower....

just my spin on it.

I think I'll agree with John Powell. But many thanks to all for kind consideration.

I gave the Himalayas, the Maoists, Northwest Airlines, B & B Hospital in Laszimpath, the tuk tuk drivers of Bangkok, and the heart surgeons of St. Mary's all a good shot and none of them could kill me so looks like I may be around for awhile longer. And, I can even laugh a little now with no pain!

Khukuri FAQ

BladeForums still ain't out of the woods completely! I had to navigate here via the Shoptalk forum drop menu!! Repeated tries to come directly here from Netscape with a valid bookmark URL were fruitless. It indeed DOES take a determined knife knut/khuktype to get here during 'rush hours'!!!

The fact that the HI forum and Spyderco forum used to run about the same -- maybe 60 or 70 posts per day, sometimes 100, and now both are running at perhaps 25% of the old capacity makes me think it is not just guys being good to me because of open heart surgery. As I've mentioned, I don't think Syperco had open heart surgery and they are down just about the same as us.

Has to be something else -- new addresses or just hard to get at as gunhou mentioned. I really don't know but I'm curious.

Khukuri FAQ

Still here; lurking and looking at the fantastic pix from Nepal; haven't posted lately 'cos I haven't had anything to say...

Not around as much as I like to be or use to be. Mainly due to work and give Uncle Bill a chance to recover.

Will

Bill, I havent had much to say either, but have been lurking. You can bet that if someone said something I disagreed with, I would have participated.

An example is the hatchet vs. khukuri issue recently.

In addition to the important factors that have been mentioned, there is branching. Uncle Bill, you were right to observe that a similar thing in the Spyderco Forum should not be disregarded.

Each day a certain small average number of new topics are added. On average, a certain number of replies are added to each thread. So, as the number of existing topics grows, the number of replies multiplies.

Of course, it's not really so mathematical, but more like the population of fish in a lake.

Just wait, though, until a topic like the "Home Invasion Scenerio" gets started!

Hi Uncle Bill... I've been lurking around a bit, whenever I'm in town. When the shift to archive status occurred, I must admit I was stymied in my attempts to get in. Ah well, at least I can get on now. Get well soon. You are in all of our thoughts.

David

They've got us completely surrounded... The poor bastards!

As others have said, lurking, nothing much to say, no questions at the present for the experts, and to give you a rest.

I "check in" to most of the threads, and will probably be following Will's question on treating wood handles closely.

Take care.

I am still around and like everyone else is saying...

It's good too know that you're feeling better and can laugh without so much pain now!

The hardy adventurer just drank from a stream he thought was pure glacier fed water not knowing that upstream was being used by a herd of yaks as a giant bidet.

I said he was hardy, not smart.:-)

Khukuri FAQ

Pakcik Bill.

I guess most of us are trying to help you build back your strength & health by minimising our Qs (so that you don't have to think hard), suggestions (so that you don't have to worry much about our chronique ideas!), sad stories (so that you don't have to shed tears) and all sort of jokes (so that you don't have to LOL!).

Now we really want you to have enough rest - later we may have 1001 Qs, 1001 suggestions, 1001 request, 1001 sad stories & 1001 jokes ... OK Pakcik Bill!

NEPAL HO!

Basically, Uncle Bill, I've been taking a rest and letting you have your forum back.

Besides which, as I told you the time before last I stopped by, my doctor has been switching around medications and caused some serious abreactions - after 3 months of juggling things started to click right a couple days ago.

Finally, Sunday started hell week. We went on vacation and the car broke down 300 miles from home.

Monday we spent the day having it fixed for 1200 bucks. From check out time at the motel to almost 5PM sat around the shop while they found ways to run the bill up. Got over the hill and crashed in a Reno motel.

Tuesday we made it home, after saying hello to you and Yangdu briefly at the cantina. By the way, that chinese restaurant in the shopping center next to you ( China Express ? ) is tasteless. Not bad tasting, just no seasoning at all.

Wednesday I came back to Reno to sell some of my gun collection so the auto repair check didn't bounce. Before going home I checked out a new, fairly large, nicely set up place called "Romantic Sensations" a couple miles up Virginia street from you. Tastefully done erotic boutique - I had a headache and was so tired I didn't even want to use my imagination.

Thursday morning 9 AM I got the money into the bank ( made it in time ). Basically got the laundry done and then crashed and hibernated.

Friday noon I check the bank and the check had already cleared. Am somewhat rested up and start thinking of making another trip to Reno to check out "Romantic Sensations" when I wasn't half dead on my feet.

And today it's Saturday. Tomorrow, after three years of being President of the Congregationa of the LCMS Lutheran church in Hawthorne, I'm supposed to unload the job onto some other poor sucker, so things are looking up in at least one way.

Well, you were wondering why people hadn't been posting. Now you know why I've been kind of quiet lately. Besides, I've decided I need a pistol to fit my image, and I'm having a time finding someone to convert a single action to a slipgun. Rusty

Hi, Uncle Bill. I, for one, have not been posting the last couple of weeks because of being out of town on business. I'm now back home, but in a few weeks I'll be leaving again -- for at least a week. My absence from the forum is in no way an indication of declining interest, simply a lack of opportunity.

Is there anything to the rumor the Teamsters are trying to organise the kamis, Uncle Bill?
