Anyone else think that the new Microtech Amphibian reminds them of a Commander? It looks like a good knife and the price is right - $190. The blade shape has Commander written all over it.

Personally, I see it looking more like a Darrel Ralph EDC blade. The Commander has a deeper belly and the angled spine. Either way, it looks as if the Amphibian owes a lot to some other designs.

However, one thing to remember, ALL designs were at the least influenced by something or some other design. It is very hard to find anything truly original.

If ignorance is bliss,
why aren't more people happy?

Yes, specifically the blade. That's the first thing I thought when I saw the Amphibian: "Hey, that blades looks exactly like the Commander blade" !!
I'm looking forward to the Amphibian, I'm hoping it's gonna be a kick ass piece !!
Maybe there will be some available in time for the Blade Show !!!

Donald.

For those of you that have not seen the MT Amphibian, here are a couple of pictures. There is a . . . resemblance to the Commander in that it's a recurve also.

But it ain't got the wave!

Ohhhhh so that's the prototype.

I thought the prototype was the handle with the lines cut across it. So is the one with the lines cut into it going to be the regular run, John?

Hmmmmmm gotta save my lunch money

That's a right fancy knife that is.

That is the latest version of the concept. The original Proto was larger and had the sculpted grip.

You may note that the latest version is smaller, having a 3.5 inch blade.

Somewhere I have a picture of the newer one next to my carry Commander. In it, you can really see that the Amphibian lacks a wave.
