For the past couple of years I have grown more addicted to collecting knives. However, my woman made me promise only one custom knife per year. I just got my David Broadwell which I will be posting pictures of soon.

To get around this rule I was looking at what is involved in making knives. I am not interested currently in forging the damascus or steel. Mainly shaping, grinding and finishing.

Any advice would be welcome. So far in reading the forum the main equipment seems to be a good grinder. What else are must haves for a newb?

Check the knifemakesr guild website and check for the Mentor for your state. Im the mentor for Tennessee and always have students in mt shop. Try it, you''ll like it.

Check with Adlai Stein of Macabee Knives. He and several others are trying to get a central Ohio bladesmith group going. I think they're mostly metal pounders, but they're local. They're planning a hammer in for sometime this summer.
