So I haven't posted much lately, nor have I had tons of "wilderness" time. Have had some though, and I will get to that.

But today was a slow, dreary day at work so I took the camera along and took a few shots of my workplace. I work at the local state park (Ponca State Park) and it is a beautiful place in the Missouri River Bluffs. Thought I would share a few images from a misty, rainy day at work.

First, some camping along here. Not a good place to camp if it rains, unless you like having your tent flooded. This is all a big ravine where tons of water flows down when it rains hard. Have seen it as a river a couple times.

This is a gravel road that leads to our shooting ranges. They're mostly used for special events and EXPO, the huge outdoors show that the park puts on every year.

Tallgrass prairie. We've got lots of it.

Next couple shots are from vehicles, but I thought they were worth sharing anyhow.

Forest in motion.

I love the concept in this picture. The mirror and other nearby stuff is a bit fuzzy because I was just hand holding the camera. Tried a couple more times but the first shot was the best.

We have loads of turkeys. This picture needs to be cropped, but I was way too lazy for it tonight.

This is some ground adjacent to the park, but there are plenty of similar views with tallgrass prairie on park grounds. I snapped this one mostly because of the mist clouds hanging on the bluffs.

To be continued...

First have one from the farm:

Next a few shots from some areas where I play. Took a drive to a local WMA (Wiseman Wildlife Management Area) and hiked around for a few hours. The weather wasn't too bad after it got done raining on and off for about the first 2 hours of my hike there.

First one from the road on the way. Took gravel backroads as much as I could on the way.

And a few from my damp hike at Wiseman WMA:

Because it was so dark, I decided to play with some B&W images for a while. Got a couple worth sharing.

Just a couple color shots. Had my camera cranked up to the highest ISO setting and it gets pretty noisy at that level. I usually stick to black and white but wanted to try to get a shot of the wonderful color of the forest.

Since it has cooled back down there are lots of fungi growing. Here's one fo the better shots I got.

That's all for now. Hope ya'll enjoyed the pictures.

Thanks man, great shots! You have an awesome work environment. Love the fungi water bowl! Thanks for sharing.

As much as I don't miss the summer humidity (grew up in upstate NY, and lived in St Louis for two years), those pictures make me wish I was there today.

Hey Brent, great shots of where you work at. Kathy and I will have to check out that park some time.
Ponca sure looks like a neat park.
Today we are heading to Indian Cave park by Fall City.

Great stuff! Some personal favorites - side mirror, B&W dramatic clouds, dripping fungi.

Thanks guys. Some days work makes appreciating the environment a bit difficult, but overall it's not too bad.

Indian Cave is a nice place, pretty similar to Ponca but a bit less developed and more trails and remote campsites. Camped there once for the backpacking class I took in school.

If you ever do make it up here be sure to give me a holler, I'll try to show you around a bit.

Nice variety of environments in your park. Thanks for the photos.

Jeff
