Dark Nemesis just won the opportunity to buy me 47 beers. . . You are one lucky guy my friend!
That is CORRECT!
Well, in 1988 the Harley Owner's Group put out a 5th anniversary knife set called the HOG 5.
It was designed by Gil Hibben and the blades were made out of damascus. Very cool designs.
In 1987, I was contracted to grind the blades, but had so much difficulty with the quality of the damascus being uneven that I backed out of the job after the first 20 blades or so. Another very talented maker took over after, I believe, they changed sources for the damascus. The finished knives were fantastic and are now the most sought after of the HOG series. I believe that the original price for the HOG 5 set was $1,200.00.
If you have one of the first ones made. . .then there's a good chance that I may have ground it nearly 15 years ago!
There's a little more Busse Trivia for you boys!
The pic is of a proto I made in order to get the job. It is made out of 0-1 and was recently "unearthed" in my original shop. It's a little rusty. . but you get the idea.
