LOL... you could probably use what's left in the log to make a decent little EDC belt knife. I think the crazy knife that Strider makes is called the Tiger. Lot's of curves and pointy edges... cool looking knife... not sure what you'd use it for though.

I'm think that blade probably had a micro fracture for it to break like that. I'm sure it was just a fluke.

What's amazing is how clean the break appears in the photo, kinda like when one cuts glass on a curve. The look on the knife user's face had to be priceless!! What a LMAOROTF scene that would'a been if it was someone playing Youtube 'expert'.....LMAO!

On a more serious note, now what? What if that was you and it was the only knife you were carrying afield? Pretty damn depressing if you asked me, what with batoning being some fo the best fun in camp. hard to whip out a SAK and just 'carry on'. Good reason to carry more than one knife afield, and so ends the 'grail hunt' for the do it all knife.

What are you talking about? That guy has at least an inch or two of blade left on that knife! :D ;)

The good news is that it will sharpen out. The bad news is that it will be a fillet knife with an awfully thick tang when the reshaping is complete.

That knife was made from D-2 steel and it had a week and used it on my campout when it broke. I battond my 3/32" thick blades through mullberry and so far have not had blade break but I use 0-1 steel and not D-2 steel. I will never again buy D-2 steel.

I think D2 is great stell for smaller bladed knives. I've heard it's just too hard for large choppers though... that it chips easy... I'm sure heat treat has a lot to do with it... but the general opinion I've heard from a lot of guys is that D2 doesn't make for a good chopper. I own 3-5 inch blades in D2 though and it's wonderful stuff IMHO. Takes an edge and holds it for a LONG time.
