Hey guys, at the risk of starting a war I have a question. I live in north-west TN. and there is not a Wal-mart or a mom and pop hardware store that carries DEVCON 30 min epoxy anymore. Is it discontinued ? I have been using this brand for about 4 years and I have never had a single customer complaint. I know JANTZ carries it , but I like to go buy it as needed. I found another brand that looks similar PERMATEX PERMAPOXY 30 min. Has anyone used this ?

Same thing here at my WalMart in Albany, Ga.....they quit carrying it and substituted it with some 5 minute stuff that takes 15 minutes to cure....at about twice the old buck/79 price.

I have not been able to find it either I am starting to get upset I have tried locktite and don't like it as much

are you guys talking about the DEVCON 30 minute stuff that comes in a syringe that measures out exact parts of each part?

I just checked Jantz supply and they have 2 Ton Devcon in syringe and in 9 oz bottles.

i have started to use Gorilla Super glue, instead of epoxy. Stuff is as tough as nails. I like that I can work it instantly. So instead of hours, handle mounting takes minutes. Now I use my clamps for making micarta instead. Now what am i going to do with the 1000 stir sticks I have.

I am a new guy here but not new to knives. After walmart switched to loctite brand (which I don't like at all), I tried the 5 min epoxy from Pop's Knife Supply in Washington, GA.
Works great and is a lot cheaper than the Devcon was.

Is that the Gorilla super glue, or the Gorilla epoxy that you are using and liking so much??

I just bought 2 packs of Devcon 2 ton for $3.00 each @ Harbour Frieght yesterday. They had it on clearance. :D

Jim,
Is the gorilla glue clear? What is the failure temp?

It is the Clear Gorilla Super Glue. I hope it would not fail before the handles melt off anyway. Since I am only using it on handles Temp is not really a problem for me. I have mounted the handles without the pins and drilled and rough grind the handle. To see how it stands up.

I have actually used Loctite Brand 30 Minute Epoxy with great success. Still have some. But I am using super glue now. Super Glues does not fill the gaps, needs a better fit between handle and blade. I like that I can work the handles
and pins almost immediately.

Try getting the Gorilla Superglue wet??? IE: Soak in water for awhile if it holds up great. Next try giving the handles a good whack on a hard surface.
Many Super glues fail under shock.
Stay with Epoxy and you will be safer Just my 2cents

You can send them my way :D

Wallyworld :jerkit: has forced all the small competion out and now that there is no one carrying the slower selling products.
Wallyworld decides to dump anything that is a slow mover. We have only frickin Loctite now and the funny part of that is they couldn't keep Devcon on the shelves. I marked a Loctite package with and X from a ink pen. It's still there three weeks now! Really was profitable to go to the Loctite!
Here is a link to one on line site, but if you Google Devcon Epoxy you'll find more.

I used to buy Devcon 2 ton epoxy at Wal-Mart, but they don't sell it anymore. I went to my local hardware store and they ordered it for me 6 tubes at a time for around $3.00 each. Maybe your local hardware or lumber yard would order it for you.

I put two drops of gorilla super glue on a handle a few weeks ago to put the handle on temporary to drill a couple of holes. I figured I could tap it off like you said. But I ended up ripping it off with a small pry bar. The micarta delaminated before it broke loss. I had to finish taking it off with a grinder.
So I was sold at that point. Last time I used epoxy was about that time.
