Where is the knife industry headed?

I see a move toward more fixed blades in smaller sizes and traditional models with excellent steels (52100) like Marble's, and very good steels (1095) like those from Colorado Cutlery. Buck seems to be moving in this direction as well, offering more choices through Pete's Custom Shop. Some of these firms seem to be willing to make up blades to customers' designs, a great move. The best of both worlds -- the best in modern steels, traditional design, plus great customer service. Now, where's that North American puukko I've been looking for?

I see a war between those that us a CNC and those who don't. Ahh... I can picture it now... just like Braveheart!
Kidding aside, I think there will be more locking mechanisms that we can shake a stick at, far less black (especially when you get knifenuts buying knives like a Nimravus and taking off the black coating!) and perhaps knife "lines". You know, you buy a folder but then you can buy the matching kitchen set, the matching camp knife, the matching small fixed belt knife, ...etc. It will get people buying way more knives. I know I'd probably buy a Sentinel everything right now if Elishewitz/Benchmade made a whole darned Sentinel set!
One last prediction... as Crayola gets better at knife making, and picks a better name, Crayolamade knives will be hot sellers!
