It appears that we have all given up on the UmNum. Is the general consensus that it doesnt belong? or am I misinterpreting things.

Well I sure haven't given up on the UmNum. I'm really looking forward to getting one. I think it will be a popular knife.:thumbup:;):p

Umnumzaan! It's hard to keep up the chatter when the knife itself hasn't hit the market yet. When it does, we will all have pictures up of ours in action :)

I think it doesn't matter until they come out. But I'd buy any sebbies you had an eye on now. Just in case.

Heather told me that they would enter production around the end of the year (just in time for Christmas) at an expected price of $450. I hope that they offer a left-handed model.

Todd:

I called heather and she said that they have a surprisingly long list of left hand UmNumms to be made. Call her up and get on the list, but regular runs in the left hand versions will be made.

I passed on a chance to buy one of the prototypes... but if they start making it with inlays, especially mammoth I will certainly purchase some.:D

(Which reminds me - have to bump the mammoth thread again!)

Kind regards,

Jos

I'm here!! and waiting. I am enthused about the new Chris Reeve Folder, but not being a reintroduction of the Umfaan, my enthusiasm is a little tempered. Also with the price of gas and groceries, and now a mention of a 450 dollar pricetag my enthusiasm is waning. My large and small are top notch knives, they do everything I ask and more. I'll probably end up with one, but lately I'm kinda wondering if it offers enough to warrant an upgrade, Heck My EDC Large is only 5 or 6 years old, and even with daily use in a warehouse, it performs like new.

I don't collect (I only have 2 Chris Reeve Knives) and the new one would just replace my large flat ground, or I'd alternate. I was really excited after handling one at blade, but as I said I'm not a collector so I need to justify the money to myself. (It took three years before I convinced myself to buy my first one, then another 4 years before I got tired of waiting for the Umfaan and bought a small...another large folder seems a little redundant)

As a note I'd probably be more enthusiastic if I didn't just pay my bills.

Ramble off...GDWTVB

Then there are no plans from my side to purchase one.:D

Which is OK though, still need some Mnandis...

Kind regards,

Jos

I'll pass as well. I really don't see it offering anything that my Sebenzas don't have.

Scott,
Thanks for the information on the left-handed models. I didn't know that they were taking preorders but I'll call and see if I can get my name added to the list.

I was not to enthused by the pictures. The lack of enthusiasm changed on this past Friday afternoon. I work near the Knife Center of the Internet's physical location. I go there very often to pic up my purchases. I was there to pic up a set of nail nippers and a Case CV(nice slipppie). Howard - the owner comes out to talk to me about the Sebenza 21 that I got from him the day before in the mail(comes next day for me :) ). He and I start talking about the Um. He says, "wait a minute". He returns with his proto. Oh boy was that a great knife! The texuring and blade shape as well as the action, sold me. I'm in!
