Where is the UmNum spirit?

It is not even on my radar screen. I just don't see the need for another EDC that I won't use. I have too many already and I don't see the Um..... as a very collectible knife either.

I will keep my eye open for the 2008 Limited Editions or possibly another Mnandi from CRK this fall.

Just looked at the Um page on CRK. I like the large pivot and perforated washers, but the little protruding glass breaker doesn't do much for me. And I'm really not sure about the o-rings on the thumb lug/stop pin... if you lose or break one or both, do you have a loose lockup? And since you'll be thumbing them all the time and they'll be smacking against the frame with every open... do you get a bag of 50 replacement rings with every knife?

I like the new blade shape, but I wish it was offered with Micarta inlays.

I'm not sold on the o-rings, for exactly the same reason DRider states, and I'm also not sold on the glass breaker. Honestly I have no trouble breaking glass with something metal no matter what the shape.

I just noticed that CRK has posted a price for the Umnumzaan at $400. At only $15 more than a large Sebenza21 I guess that's a fair deal.

I think that the UmNum is just the evolutionary direction of the Reg Sebenza and as such will be extremely popular. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one when they go into regular production.

I cannot wait to get mine. I have been on the waiting list for some time.

Still enjoying my proto. I haven't really used it too much. Guess I'll safe queen it and wait for the production to arrrive. Curious to see the differences. Still a very cool folder, beefy and ready for the fight!
:D

blackend, do you think the handle is grippy enough that your hand wouldn't come forward onto the blade if you (hopefully never) use a stabbing motion? it looks like the checkering is grippy, but there's no real finger guard.

Does anyone have an H&K with an O-ring? Do the USP/HK45/etc. O-rings need to be replaced regularly or are they generally something you can forget about?

I can't see this one slipping on you. The checkering is very grippy but not abrasive. The knife will work well in the fashion you mentioned, bare handed or gloved.

I don't see any problems with the o-rings. They have been throughly tested. They should not need to be replaced all that often if at all. They are just a cushener and have flexability properties that should allow for longevity. You have a good point RM, the H&K o's don't need replacing, though I don't know if we're talking the same materials here.
