Where should I buy a G10 Caly III?

So, I've been combing the forums over the past weekend and think I've decided the plain edge G10 Caly III sounds about right for my first spyderco and, in fact, my first real knife.

Grand Prairie - $97
Savson - $90

I was going to order by phone from GP today but I guess they're closed on Mondays. Judging by website alone I have a little more faith in GP - it would be great if they price matched but an extra $7 for piece of mind is worth it.

I found several e-tailers w/ Caly Jrs and ZDP IIIs but those were the only two I found w/ G10/VG-10 SEs. Any other places I should consider?

Thanks!

I figured I needed to strike while the iron was hot - you know, when the obsession is in full swing ;)

Actually, I think the Delica might be too small for me and the Endura too big and while I know FRN has its place I wanted something a little more substantial in the palm. I also gathered VG-10 would be more tolerant of nicks and dents than ZDP and maybe more resistant of corrosion and the flat grind a little tougher too.

Honestly, I was sold on a Benchmade Griptillian a week ago (that axis lock is fun) but after looking into Spyderco, seeing the community that exists behind it, and the way SG & Co relate to that community I decided I needed to get on board with Spyderco.

I think a Tasman Salt for other field duties (4x4 for fun) might make for a nice complimentary knife down the road.

You lucky fellow! That's a NICE knife! :D

A lot of people like the Caly III better than the Delica because it is flat ground. You don't get that "wedging action" on slicing that you do with the Delica. Over at the Spyderco forum, some people have suggested calling the Caly III "The New Delica," because it represents an evolution forward in utility, ergonomics, and cutting ability.

I have both the VG-10 and the ZDP Caly IIIs and it's a toss up which I like better. I tend to go with the VG-10 on "blue collar days" because of its fantastic gripy-ness. The ZDP is there on "white collar days" because it virtually disappears into the waistband.

So what I'm saying is, you made the right choice.

You're going to love the Caly3. I have both the Caly3 VG10 and Delica Wave-
while the Delica is slightly bigger, the Caly3 is much more "luxurious", with better feel and build quality IMO.

I've dealt with both GP and Savson, and found their service to be equally good. If you can find something to bring your order to $125 or over ;), you get free shipping with Savson.

Caly3 is the sharpest production folder I've experienced so far, it would worth alot to me if one folder can be sharper than a caly3 :)

Dont use Bestknives. I ordered a caly3 from there on July 30 and still havent gotten it. It took a lot of time to get responses to my emails and the overall service and satisfaction was terrible. Supposedly i will be getting the Caly3 tomorrow, i cant wait to get my hands on it.

I ordered a sharpmaker, benchmite and opinel no10 from knifecenter.com over the weekend I got the order today. They even called to tell me I should switch from 3day to ups ground since it'd take the same amount of time anyway, they saves me $8 or so. Good to know that they are looking out for you. On a side not, the caly3 looks like a great knife and if I could mentally get over the price, I'd buy it.

Glad to hear you had a good experience.

I ordered the Caly 3 from GPK this morning. They said it would probably ship today so hopefully I'll have it in hand this weekend.

Regarding the price of the knife - like I'm guessing most of you do, I can get really obsessed with things so I figured picking up a nice no compromise knife first thing to quite the voices would be worth it. Now I can take my time and do some more casual shopping. A sharpmaker will definitely be on that list.

Good luck! Let us know your impressions when you receive it :)

Well i finally recieved my Caly3 PE, and i must say the wait was worth it. the more i handle it the more i like it, super sharp, and great action and lockup. thanks to those who steered me in that direction.

I just got my Caly III from Newgraham and I love it. I guess that as I get older I appreciate different qualities in a folder. Now more than ever, I appreciate a knife that cuts well and is comfortable, more than anything else. The Caly is replacing an Opinel that I have had in a pocket non-stop for a year and a half now. The build quality is PHENOMENAL, and it's sharper than a lightsaber. It is close to absolutely perfect.

I have carried my Caly III for months now. It is my all time favorite EDC. I liked it so much, that I bought a spare one, just in case!

DavidZ,
Yeah man I know what you mean, I am considering buying the ZDP/carbonfiber as a spare
