I'm looking for 2 new strops, I would buy from strop man but I really don't feel like waiting a month for one to be made. I need to know where I can buy good stroping compounds aswell. I would perfer a strop with both a smooth and a suede side, if not perferably just suede, and if anyone knows where I can get all of them at once so I don't have to pay the extra shipping that would be great

Thanks all

I got my latest 2-sided strop from SharpeningSupplies.com. Works very well.

That's where I've been looking! How's the leather on it and did you get any on their compounds with it ?

I use this one.

It's smooth on one side and suede on the other. I got some DMT 1 micron diamond compound and loaded the suede side. I use the smooth side bare. I like the results I get from it. It's about 3 months old so I don't have a long history with it, but it's really doing well so far. I quit using any loads now except diamond loads, ether compound or spray. I kinda like the compounds a little better. It's easier for me to spread and get a more even coating than using the spray.

Hmm looks good Derrick but I just don't know how easy it will be to apply the compound to the smooth side I've had difficulty in the past

Not sure if its as good as the ones you can buy online (in fact I'm sure its not) but I made one out of Saddleback Leather scraps (tobacco color) and a 2x4.

Hobby lobby or whatever the equivalent in your area is and pick up a few pieces of scrap leather. Get some compound and go to town.

Tandy Leather sells leather strips. They're 4 feet long and come in different widths. They just had them on sale and that may still be happening

Stropman usually has a few of each style.made up or just about ready. Shoot him an email an ask. Love my Billy strop. Great stuff from a great guy.

I picked up a pretty decent double sided (suede and smooth) paddle strop at a wood working store in my area called Woodcraft for about $12. They had fancier models as well. Check out their web site to see if there is a brick and mortar location in your area. Woodcraft also has a surprising good selection of whet stones from DMT and Spyderco as well as Japanese waterstones.

Honestly? Make one. I bought a flexxx strop preloaded with compound. Its made well but they are incredibly simple to make and you can choose to make it any way you wish. I made a four side strop from a table leg at home depot and a leather sheet from micheals crafT. I have $12 into my strop and it performs. Plus when you make something useful you just feel useful.
