I don't have any paracord, at this point in time, but I'd like to get some.

I'm hoping for suggestions of some of the brick & mortar stores where you've purchased it. I'm thinking along the lines of an Army/Navy surplus store...but, I'm not sure that they have the newest paracord that's available.

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone.
This is my first time posting a comment here.I,ve been reading here for a while and have learned a lot about a lot about knives.
The best place I've found for paracord is here,

http://www.wisementrading.com/straps.htm

I have odered from there twice, and they have great service. I recieved the cord both times in about 3 days after ordering.

Hope this helps!

Any local surplus store will have it. I usually buy mine in 50' bundles, but they also offer rolls of it.

lol. I've been looking around locally for international orange paracord, but I couldn't find it. So I just ordered 100' of it from county comm. $6 for 100'. Sounds good, right? Except that shipping was then $7....

The internet isn't all its cracked up to be. If I could have found this locally, I would have saved myself the shipping fee.

Right now my supplies contain fishing line, "regular" old-fashioned string, nylon string, a roll of sisal (something like twine), and three bags of 3/8" 50' twisted nylon rope. The paracord is going to be used for purposes between the nylon string and the nylon rope.

Thank you all for your help!

Hi: Try www.bestglide.com or www.tadgear.com. I know Best Glide has the "real McCoy" which is the "550" Mil-Spec 7 strand type. That's what you want. Many of the other types of para cord are multi-fiber while the 550 has 7 individual strands useful for many purposes once the sheathing is removed.
Cheers,
Bruce

Regarding the concern with Countycomm's shipping cost ($7), consider this ...

In 2005 the IRS uses a cost/mile of about 36 cents. That means that the $7 shipping is the equivalent of driving about 20 miles. So if your source of good orange paracord is 10 miles away and it costs the same for a 100' hank, the difference between having the cord shipped or going to get it is about the same.

This issue exists with all internet suppliers. Bestglide.com, for example, sells a 100' hank of paracord for $9.95 and then adds $7.95 for shipping.

Beware of "free" shipping - that often means that the base price has been increased to compensate.

My solution has been to simply buy a lot of stuff each time I make a purchase from Countycomm. Not really financially sound advice, but lots of fun.

Just received (unsolicited) a catalog from cheaperthandirt.com in Texas. They have American made paracord which they claim is top quality.

Er, I hope no one took that posting of mine to be a slam on Countycomm. It wasn't meant to be. Simply, I was observing that often you find things for a good price online only to have the price savings negated by shipping costs. This is true of almost all online retailers that I've done business with.

Frankly, as fuel prices go up -- and they ARE going to go up from here on out -- I expect this situation to only worsen.

Kenk I'm going to use that stategy on my wife when she asks why I buy so much stuff at one time. "Hey I'm just trying to save the planet by combining my purchases".

www.basegear.com has 550 cord for $4.99/100 ft.

They also have the Fox 40 Micro (AKA Ritter "Howler") whistle for 2/$7.95 and the Doan Tool (magnesium block and firesteel) for $4.95.

Shipping for 500 ft. of 550, 6 whistles, and three Doan Tools came to $4.95.

Odered Sunday evening.
Shipped Monday afternoon.
Order confirmation sent.
Shipping confirmation sent.

What's not to like?

Well, the reason that I mentioned "brick & mortar" stores, in my original post, was because sending my credit card number across unknown numbers of computers just gives me an uncomfortable itchy sensation. Calling a store and giving a person, who's name I've asked, my credit card number, or, better yet, driving to the store and paying for my purchases in cash, is the way I would prefer to go.

I have a buddy who is friends with the owner of her own local Army/Navy surplus store. I think that I'll try to take a cruise over to her store, with my buddy, and get some paracord.

Thanks again, for all of your helpful replies.

After you hand your CC to the clerk, he/she sends the information via the Internet over an unknown number of computers to a bank clearing center, which sends confirmation back the same way. We cannot escape the computers. Might as well have the advantages since we cannot excape the risks. As noted above, the drive to the store may well cost more than the 550 and shipping from an Internet store.

But A/N stores are fun to visit. Recreation.

this is my first post. Blade forums if the best site for knife info i've found. i just thought i'd put my two cents into the paracord discussion. major Surplus and Survival has 550 cord at an OK price, and in 5 colors, but no orange. I found a 50 foot roll of orange cord in the boating supply section of my local Walmart. it was pretty tough stuff, and looked cool on wrapped around the handle of my $11.00 pathfinder bowie that i got from cheaper that dirt.
