first, hey everybody i'm new and hope everyones doing well
I am new to knife making and have only been using manufactured blades. now I want to learn to make my own and would like your help. Who do you buy your steal from carbon and stainless. And what steal do you prefer and what would be easier to work.

thankyou,,,, evan

Wow. A person spells "steel" incorrectly and everyone jumps on it, but if I had a dollar for every thread where someone used "your" instead of "you're", I could retire.

How old are you? How much experience do you have with woodworking and metal working? What tools do you own? Welcome to BladeForums. Make a post saying "Any Makers In The Brandon, Mississippi Area?" Find a maker near you and ask him/her if you can go to there shop and learn a few things from them. Also pick up a book called $50 Knife Shop by Wayne Goddard and read it from cover to cover a few times through. That will help you get started easier. That book teaches you what tools you need, how to make a knife on a low budget, and many other things.

EDIT: Had to correct typo.

You guys should know by now that we're not all perfect. It's not like he chooses to spell like that, he simply chooses not to spell better (I do realize "to spell better" sounds retarded, I'm just too lazy to come up with something better or rework the sentence to a different end -- see, I just advocated my own laziness, and made it look like I was really advocating his).

In all seriousness, let's not get too serious, and help him fine the right steal to make his knifes.
