I just got my shop set up but I still need to find materials for stock removal. Where is a good place to buy blade steel, handle materials, sheath materials etc.? Also, concerning tools, I have a band saw, grinder, and belt sander, and a pretty good selection of hand tools, is there anything else I would definately need? I'm going to be doing this as a hobby so it would be better if I could buy the materials in smaller quantities.

As for supplies, two places that are my go-to's are USA Knifemakerand Pop's Knife Supplies. Tracy runs USA Knifemaker supplies and is frequently on this forum and is a top notch guy as is Pop. Both businesses are family run businesses run by people with a history in knifemaking. Tracy has a larger inventory than Pop, but Pop does have some great belt and steel prices as well.

If you can't find it there, try Texas Knife supplies, Knife Kits or Sheffields. Also, if you're Canadian, Knifemakerhas some great supplies.

+1 for Tracey, there is also Jantz supply, and Alpha knife supply or AKS, All of these are on the Web so google is your friend.

we almost need a sticky for this stuff. a supplies sticky that covers steel, handles and those odds and ends sites and companies.

Thanks fo the information, I've been looking forward to getting started for a while now and I'm just now stating to have some free time.

I didn't answer your question. You will want a drill press. A small benchtop model is all I've used for many years and it's good for almost everything I need to do except drill big holes. And I can do that too, if I finesse it. :D
