Where to buy wide 5160 or L6

I am having a hard time finding any knife steel dealers on the west coast, I am specifically looking for some 3'' or wider 1/4" 5160 or L6. I really dont want to pay shipping from the east coast to get what I need. any ideas?:confused:
 
Don't search for "knife steel" dealers in dimensions that wide, search for "spring steel" dealers.
Right near me I can get 5160 6 inches wide.

Kelly Cupples in Yakima, WA carries 1/4" X3 5160. He is great to deal with, and the shipping should be a whole lot less than shiping from NJ.

Take the price of steel and add 1/4 to 1/3 for shipping.

I go for quality, I figure if a pay a buck or two more for shipping from Jersey it's ok cause I get great quality of steel (I have not dealt with Kelly Cupples). I just Know if I ask Aldo for the specs on that batch of steel I get them, and that when it shows up is very clean. I have had nothing but bad run ins with Admiral Steel and had some questionable steel from others. I am now down to the point where I buy steel from Aldo, belts from and a few other things Tracy, and wood in person from known good sources. If I waste a few dollars in my dealings for shipping I find I save it in headache down the road.
 
Kelly Cupples has supplied quality steel to master smiths for years. I've used him for probably five, or six years. Great steel. Great service.
 
I heard nothing but good thing about Kelly, but I'm sticking with Aldo cause I know what I'm getting and don't have a reason to change.
 
The first bar of knife steel I ever bought was 6' x 3" x 1/4" 5160 from McMaster-Carr. I don't recall specifics, but I do recall being very pleasantly surprised at how reasonable shipping was to Arizona. It could be that the steel was overly priced though...again, I don't recall now. You might want to check them out.

Since I've ordered steel from Kelly Cupples and had great service from him. The free shipping on a $100 steel order from him is really nice too.
 
Thank you for all the replies, I actually found some from mcmaster-carr. I got 12' of 3"x1/4" for $76 + $25 shipping, and I received it in 2 days. I will have to look into the spring shops near portland also.
 
Kelly is great and I didn't know he carried HT oils. Cool. Thanks for the list MadBug. I also know he carries 52100 plate sometimes.

Alabamadamascussteel.com sells 5160 in 1/8" x 1 1/4" x 12" Bars for $10.00. Hope this helps
