Hi there i was hoping that you guys could help me with a problem im having. I currently live in Alberta, Canada and i from what ive been able to find i there are not many belt grinders for sale here or Alberta for that matter, and there is one but i just don't have 1600 to dish out or a bee.

So here is where I'm hoping someone could help me, does anyone know of a place that ships here or is in Canada that i could get a good belt grinder

Thanks in advance

Erich

Fitzo found a good one. I wish i would have known.
I don't think you can beat that.
See if he can give you variable speed options, even a set of 2, 5 step pulleys is so much better than fixed speed.

I have a fixed speed Bee, and having used it...
i see the downsides. Nothing i can't fix with time $ and effort..
It needs some mods...
Knowing what i know now. I now would buy a Bader III with a 2 hp variable speed on the tilting table. It's more versatile

Welcome to Blade Forums, see you have been lurking about for a bit. Good luck finding grinder.

Greetings,
I second the suremak grinder. Rumor has it Knut has a new 3 wheel grinder, similar to the KMG, already in production.

I would check out the BEE grinder. Rob has offered in the past to check it out in person, I would ask him. Looks like a sweet machine.

I should go meet him and ask. His shop is a 10 min drive from here.

I have been using a Bee for at least twenty years and also built and use a clone. It will do any thing you want it too, it's that versatile. Of course you need a few attachments as you go along as you do with any machine you buy and start out with. I madse all the ones I needed. When I was making just straight knives I was using a 2hp. motor and went to a 4" drive wheel to slow down the belt speed .I was then doing just flat grinding. In time I got into folders only and went with a variable speed drive but still with the flat platen on the Bee original. However I did build the clone and have used it for hollow grinding with both 8" and 10" wheels. It too has a variable speed drive. You can easily change the Bee from flat grinding to hollow grinding, so one machine is all you really need. As well I would suggest rather than buying the variable speed to replace the 6" drive pully with a 4" one. I also recommend getting a 10" wheel and unless you are going to start out and stay with folders, get the 2HP. motor. To see some of my work, you can go to customknifegalleryofcolorado.com Frank

Erich,

I live in Calgary and I am currently looking at having a small machine shop fabricate a KMG clone. The shop might give me (us) a price break if they can make more than one at a time. Let me know if you are interested.

I would look at the coot grinder they are 400 to 500 depends on the wheel size you want that doesnt include the motor but they are easy to find. SOME ONE POST A LInK FOR A COOT GRINDER these Canuc s will appreceate it .

Active Machinery Sales Inc. in Surrey B.C. are a distributor for Kalamazoo belt grinders and have all kind of sizes up to 2"x72" models.
