Where to find value for Buck colectables

Very cool! i wasnt aware of the other 2 knives after my Dads "old north Church" knife.. The knife that hurt my fathers sale of his knife wasnt the Statue of liberty knife that you have pictured. It was a small pocket folding knife that had a very small peice of metal from the actual liberty. My dad worked closely with Chuck Buck to develop this knife. Unfortunatly my dad passed in 1998. If I was you I would hold on to that knife and pass it down to your children. Its a piece of American history that my Dad was very proud of and there were very little made. Thanks for the pics you you posted: ) I am interested in any questions that you may have or maybe anything that you know that you could share with me. : )

Is this the small knife you are referring to?

I can't imagine that the small knife would have hurt the sales of a much larger knife, maybe the case if they were the same style or similar style/size. But generally one is going to by the style they want, and if they are a hardcore collector they'd have bought both.

However I would imagine it had more to do with marketing, or lack there of.

JB, nice collection, your constitution knife appears to be oak, teak has a more consistant grain.

Oh and by the way, the wood wasnt costly like you posted. They were donated by the church to my dad and a small donation was givin to church in exchange. And I also have the original drawing that my father sketched of the lanterns with the one if by land wording. Patriot1776

HI PT1776,

Let me share some information that any member of the BCCI can access and learn from. What I am refering to are the BCCI news letters new and old are on the BCCI web site.

Feb 1989 news letter by Vern Taylor:
Old North Church; Etched and Gold figuer honoring the ride of Paul Revere, handle wood from a beam of the church where the lanturns hung, plans called for 1775 to be made and those made are serialized xxx/1775; However! only about 300 were actualy made so this will be a prize in the years to come. reason only 300? the finacial problems of Arum Etchings and the high Royalty being paid to use the original wood from the church made the cost too high.

I hope this information from the BCCI helps you gain more knowledge of the knife your Dad helped get made.

Hi st8yd,

Teak wood is what the BCCI LE list states (USS Costitiution, Deckwood, Teak). This information is also on the BCCI web site, the information that BCCI members have access to is well worth the price of a membership.

I have a question I have only seen 1 in my life which that ain't along time lol, but it is my uncle's knife and flashlight and i believe the knife is made in 1992 it is a 110 and it has a buck knives flashlight with it also. He used it to feed the cows at night after work before he retired. And it is still a good flash light but the bulb is burned out and it needs a new one he loves that knife and flashlight and I would like to know where to get a new bulb or flashlight for him could someone please help me.

JB......I'm suspicious of that info. I know teak was used on those old ships, but mostly for decorative work....not decks. The decks on those ships were usually oak, at least from what I've heard in the past.

I can't be sure about that. I'm old and I'm a navy veteran, but, of course, I'm not old enough to have sailed on one of those ships.

:D

However, I think a fact check might be good just to see if the BCCI Info is correct.

Edit:

Never mind......after consulting with Mr. Google I'm finding indications that the decks were indeed teak.

:)

Turbo......best to just give Buck a call or e-mail. The link to the website is at the top of the page and they do give contact info.

Good luck.

:)

Actually, according to Patrick Otton, Technical Writer at the Naval Historical Center Detachment Boston, the original decking on USS Constitution was made of the "best heart pitch pine". Intuitively that makes sense since it would have been much easier to obtain and had some of the same qualities as teak.

Although, decks were replaced quite often, so I suppose that not too many years went by before it was teak.
