where to get 1084 ?

could someone please point me to a place where I could buy 1084 steel flat bar in 1/4" thickness and 1.5" wide?
I checked NJ Steel Baron but they are out of stock:-(

No, not the same. 1095 is much more complex to heat treat properly. Difficult without precise temp control and fast quench oil. 1084 is much less complicated.

a suitable replacement is usually 5160 or 1070.

80CrV2 is basically 1084+ (I think it's been sold under that moniker).

80CrV2 is 1080+ Chromium and Vanadium. I'm surprised Aldo doesn't have 1084. Were you just looking at his website or did you call him? If not, call to make sure. Otherwise, take a look at 80CrV2 as was mentioned, 1075, 1070.

I just ordered some 1/4 80crv2 from Aldo a couple days ago.

Wouldn't 80crv2 be a closer replacement for 1084 than 5160? I guess its like 1080 with more alloys or 5160 with more carbon. In terms of results I think they are all in the same ball park but in terms of working and heat treat which is easier for the small home shop to get right?
