I am going to put out a big batch of fixed blades and I'm looking for a sheath supply outfit. I was looking for a heavy cordura type with plastic liner but will also be looking for leather sheaths in quantity in the future. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Matt Roberts hooked up with one of the bigger leather firms to do the sheaths for his new mid tech stuff. Not sure what the minimum order would be. I will let Matt tell you more, but the cost seemed quite reasonable. But I think that he did place an initial order of over 100 with the anticipation that there would be many more. If you can make the knifes to the dimensions of a standard Randall model, you could get sheaths from Sullivan's Holster Shop with a little bit of a wait, but they are prbably going to cost a bit more......at least $35 per sheath. As long as you can fit a standard Randall size, they could knock them out in no more than 8 weeks at last count. I bought a couple of those Blackhawk cordura sheaths early on and was singularly unimpressed. "One size fits all" means "fits nothing well, IMHO. Plus, I recall that the cost was up in the $30 range where it didn't make sense not to try to find a decent leather sheath for a few bucks more.

Tracy, are the sheaths all the same ? Various colors, tooling or other embellishments? Also time frame required by.

Joe , I wouldn't count on Sullivan's to get out any big orders soon as they burnt down a couple of weeks ago. Almost total loss,Greg and family I am sure will rebuild in a new location but will have a lot of catching up to do.

Mickly mouse, how about trying this: get 5 of the best from our forums, and have each guy make 10 sheaths. Give them a listing of what you want, and how much you can spend per sheath. I think Sandy is out of town but won't be gone long, and Paul Long is easy to catch (sometimes). Then, just 3 more and you're off and going!!
I think I owe you $25 for something, but for the life of me I don't know what it was (is)!?!?!?

Daniel Koster seems to have pretty good luck with JRE Industries and Wilma Davis (???)

Oh, man......I heard about the fire at Tampa Bay Hardware, but didn't know that it took out the entire complex. The original reports in the St. Pete Times and Tampa Tribune said that the hardware store was a total loss but that Sullivans was "moderately damaged." That sucks!!!

The fire in the hardware store apparently crossed an awning and caught Greg's place on fire.He lost all his hides, equipment, molds for his holsters, records and a bunch of his Randalls. Very sad, Greg is not only a great sheathmaker but a great guy as well. News is they are optimistic and looking for a new location. Let's hope for a new beginning.Dave:)

thanks to every one for the help..

Why not ask the sheath maker here in our own forums in the makers section?

This batch will all be the same with more to follow.

That's a shame about Sullivan's. Getting started again is going to be tough.

Your just mad cause I been resting from knife making awhile and you are all tuckered out from making rocking chairs..but i'm back to making a few knives.. and you do owe me $25 and I'm not telling you what it's for. I'd rather just let it kinda bug you awhile....

That's 2 nods for JRE. I'm not familiar with Wilma Davis though..

No kidding. The couple of times I went up there, they always had some of the most popular styles in the case with the Sullivan logo on them so us non-Randall guys could buy them. Excellent user sheaths at a very fair price. I have sent out three fighters with type A and C sheaths and carry one of my "shop" knives in one too. I hope that can get back on their feet quickly. They are nice folks and a very good resource.

Tracy - I've seen the sheaths that Dave does and I think you'd be pleased with his work. I haven't gotten any from him, but the folks who have tell me his prices are fair.
