Now that Scibeer is inactive, where would one get a Farmer or similar modded with scissors?

If you don't get any love here, you might dig around at sosakonline.com. Just a thought.

I haven't heard of anyone selling mods but I have seen posts here where people have done their own.

I've been swimming in the Bay for at least 6 months for a Scibeer, nothing. I will not give up though.

LOL! I have a couple from Scibeer that I bought on Bladeforums... will consider it for my next giveaway.

I have a Farmer w/scissors. Since scibeer is no longer making them, I guess it's okay to say that I think I paid around $70. I also suppose that since he's no longer making them, it's probably worth significantly more. All this said, if I had to do it over again, I'm not sure that I would. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love the knife. The heft of the knife is great. The extra thickness makes it more comfortable to use. The problem is— the knife is no longer expendable. As such, I worry about it. I baby it. I don't push the tools as hard as I might if it were cheap and easy to replace. If I break the can opener tip on an extra tight phillips screw with a regular Farmer, I'd just go out an buy another. If I break the can opener tip on my baby, I'll throw a tantrum and then cry like a little girl.

A Farmer combined with a Classic (for the scissors) is a whole lot cheaper, and weighs exactly the same as a Farmer w/scissors. It's just not as cool. :)

That would be a sweet giveaway! So, no hints were I could be looking. Sosak doesn't have anything, nothing on ebay. Guess I might have to get a regular Farmer to tide me over and duct tape a Classic to it:(

Scott Free, that's exactly the problem I had. It was exactly what I wanted..minus the huge gaping valley were the hook would have went..and I was afraid to use it. It became nearly irreplaceable, and it took the utility/affordability away from an otherwise mega-affordable SAK.

I hasn't really bothered me. Scibeer sent photos and pointed it out to me -- he said

"I want to let you see what the back of the knife looks like so you know what to expect. The scissors layer leaves a void since the backspring isn’t flush with the bottom of the knife. The pins are hand peened so they will have a hand hammered look."

I'm not really sure how much support the hook provides the scissors. Not much torque is usually applied to scissors and I think most of the force would be on the pin. If the pin breaks, it could be re-pinned.

(Does that get me any give-away points?) :)

Ha! Thanks! I've done several giveaways and I've never asked for anything in return except to post a review of the multi-tool on Bladeforums. The intention was to promote discussion about Swiss army knives and other multi-tools on Bladeforums.

When websites promote themselves they usually just post links and recruit others to do the same. I know atleast one forum that got its start by contacting people on Bladeforums.

I just looked up the emails... I provided the Farmer and paid for the modification which included the scissors, labor and shipping. He charged $30 for the first one and gave a $5 discount one each additional one. Since the red Farmers were $14.52 with free shipping, I just had them shipped directly from Amazon. The total price ended up being around $39.52- 44.52.

I sure missed that boat; should have done it when I had the chance.

I am also looking for that mod, and a corkscrew would be nice too on that knife but is probably not feasible. Does anyone know how it is done/how easy or hard it is to add scissors to the knife? I am willing to mangle a few knives trying if anyone has some guidance on how to do it.

I don't know. I really like the Farmer the way it is. The scissors are cool but having half a backspring isn't cool in my opinion lol.

Those mods are hard to find and there is now way I can do it myself. I am just suprised that no one has picked this up as many folks would want one.

I like the Farmer just as it is. I do have a Scibeer Cadet with an added saw blade in Orange alox that is prety cool. If anyone is int. shoot me a PM. It is a bit pricey though.

I picked up an Orange Farmer with a firesteel from +B. It's kinda heavy and I'm looking to try and get someone to swap the firesteel into a Soldier and replace the spacer.

O

just to be clear, there is a whole backspring that runs the length of the SAK, it's just that the 'multi purpose hook' can't be fitted so there is a depression where that should be fitted. It still works as a backspring and keeps a decent tension on the scissors.:)
