Where to get a nice, cheap blank

I'm thinking of making a knife for a Christmas present and I was wondering where would be a good place to pick up a blank. Doesn't need to be amazing steel or anything, would mostly be for show, but would be nice if it was functional too. I'd like something that I would really only need to sharpen and make a handle for it. I have a really nice piece of aged african padauk that I'll be making the handle out of. It seasons into a beautiful deep red color. I really like the pattern on damascus steel that I see on ebay and other sites, but it's hard to tell if its actually folded steel or if it's just a surface pattern treatment. Not a requirement though.

Any idea on where or what I should be looking for specifically? I'd like to spend $30ish dollars or so, so I know I won't be getting anything amazing, but hopefully something that looks really nice.

I love the title for this thread!

Virtually every knife supplier sells blanks. Ebay does too, but the quality isn't always a guarantee. A google of "knife making supplies" will get you twenty or so suppliers.

I get a kick out of people who decide to wait until mid November to make a custom Christmas gift in a field they have no experience in. I would suggest a complete kit with semi-finished scales and all needed items. Knifekits is good for these. www.knifekits.com
