How do I go about getting a custom made hand forged, crude, ugly, rustic finnished blade made? I want something that looks like it came off the battlefield of a barbarian war if you get my drift.

There are a number of fine bladesmiths who may have what you want.
Al Massey is a custom smith who will do roughly finished or very fine work. I am waiting for him to complete a sword for me. Custom work is not cheap, but for Massey see:

You description was vague - do you want a sword, big knife, and just how big? You will need to wait for any custom work.

This one appeals to me.
As-Forged with sharpened edge.

Cutlass is 25" OAL.

"These curious weapons date back to Europe’s early 1600’s. Each Dussack is made from a single piece of steel and is clearly a “no frills” cutting weapon! Because of it’s simple and functional design, it was favored by commoners, who needed a weapon that could be used for a variety of purposes."

Yes! I like that a lot, especially the knife. Looks like a great first project for someone getting into forging. Could be mistaken, though, with all those bends.

You might want to check out Mark Williams over in the Shoptalk section. He makes some rustic stuff and has a good eye for design.

Yes, that is exactly the finnish I was looking for. The blade I had in mind is something like this as seen in lord of the rings, Just a big mean no frills chopper.

Thanks Michael,

Nismo, I happen to like making old, ugly and barbaric designs. Shoot me an e-mail if you wish to talk.
