I am gonna try to make a few traditional style ulus (well, traditional for the past 150 years or so) and I need some steel. Most of the time Ulus were made from discarded handsaw blades, but I am on my last saw, and I feel kinda bad that I just whacked up a saw made in the 1950's that was still serviceable. I need flat stock, about 1/16" thick, and at least 5" wide, preferably wider.

TIA, YeK

It is not a matter of whether or not you are paranoid, it is a matter of whether or not you are paranoid enough.

From what I've heard, L6 is pretty hard to find, but try looking for 15N20, it's almost the same composition, and I remember seeing it for sale somewhere.

15n20 is almost the same material. The problem is buying it in the size you need. It come in coils and is hard to get the manufacturer to cut to size without buying the full coil. Here is the number for the 15n20 you can ask if they will cut it for you OR as if they have a drop.. 18003213014

Hey Darrel-
Me and Mel Sorg & a few other guys got ahold of some of this 15N20 from Gene Martin...he thought it was L6 by the data sheet he got on it(not his fault). Mel made up a blade & sent to Howard for HT & it gave him fits in the salt pots.
While I was up visiting Dan Pfanenstiel, we tried his differential HT & quench in 150F olive oil, and it turned out great...double temper lines as well as hard.
Funny how even tho it's nearly identical to L6 on paper, HT (at least in salt pots)shows it's different.
