Where to get lanyard cord?

I like the multi-colored lanyard cord I've seen on a number of custom pieces, and am wondering where I can get some .... (The cord reminds me of rock-climbing rope, a sport I love but have been away from for too long!!)

I appreciate, in advance, all assistance!! Thanks very much -- y'all on this forum are simply awesome.

You answered your own question. Just go to a shop that sells climbing gear and get some accessory cord. I don't know if there is a Recreational Equipment (REI) store in your area but perhaps there is an Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) back there. Cheers! -Alan

EMS has great cord for wrapping and lanyards.

Buzz,
I have never seen a cord wrapped like that. It looks awesome! Is it hard to do? Does it aid in grip? Any problem with blade clearance in the closed position? I may have to give it a try!

It really isn't that hard to do, and the EDC is perfect for it. If you take the core out of the cord, it's thin enough to wrap without touching the blade. Also, as the wraps are on the sides, the blade would run between them if things loosened up.

You take the handle off of the EDC and run the cord through the first set of holes from the pivot. You then just wrap each side down until you hit the lanyard holes. Run the cord out of the lanyard holes and tie a standard Seb knot. The whole job is integrated into one piece of paracord.

It's fun to do, looks great and feels great.

Buzz! that sure is a nice looking job on the Camillus EDC! Is it the 154CM model?

It sure is the 154CM!!!!

Here are a few more pics to help illustrate the wrapping technique. The EDC shown here is the 154CM my wife carries, which has a slightly brighter cord than was used on mine. The top pic shows the wrap from an angle. The middle pic shows the blade clearance after wrapping. The bottom pic is a straight on view of the wrap.

I also forgot to mention...... you put the clip back on after wrapping. The clip still works fine, and wears less on my blue jeans with the wrap.

agreed!

nice interesting pics.

a little color spiced up that knife

Hear, hear!

Great to see something other than black cord.

I just wrapped my new (used) Neck PECK with 2mm cord. Orange and purple on a green background. Subdued, but interesting.

Sure is different than the soooo typical Black on Black on Black, without pearls.

Just checked out REI. Discovered they have a live help/chat capability, so you talk to someone in real time. Never encountered that before. Great customer service!

The store closest to me -- 40= miles -- carries only 3mm and parachute-type. No 2mm, tho guess can order it online.

Any other sources for the smaller diameter cordage? Especially the multicolored?

Way cool wrap Buzz! Just something that came to you?

Bus, My local hardware store has 2mm, but it's not the same as the stuff Buzz has...not as purty.

Yah. It just came to me one night after somebody posted pics of their neck knife wraps. I really dug the wraps, but didn't have a neck knife to practice on. Out came the old EDC and the rest was magic.

The first incarnation used black cord, and separate wraps for the handle and lanyard. Things just got more refined and colorful after my next visit to EMS. I'm a lucky guy and have an EMS nearby. They stock 5 different colors of 2MM cord. They have the two purples posted previously, black, orange/yellow, and camo.

Should I take this to mean that you have a custom EDC and not a Camillus? If so...... I'll trade yah?
