Hi i'm from Louisville Ky and i'm in the market for quench oil but the problem is i cant seem to find anyone that sells it locally!!! so i'm in a little bit of a pickle where does everyone else get theirs at? i'm pretty new to knife making i have a lot of blanks of 1/8 inch 1075 that I've made i just need to quench and temper i was going to use canola oil but just kinda on the fence about it and just figured id go ahead and get the right product and do it right any help will be very appreciated thank you

McMaster Carr carries quench oil.

I think 90%+ of us get it shipped UPS or FedEx.

I've bought from:
Maxim Oil in Texas (5-gal pails of Parks 50)
Acculube in Ohio (Houghton products)

With 1075, canola or mineral oil will work good. Better would be some oil from Maxim, like their duratherm G, DT48, or Parks 50, but good luck finding those locally. Also, plenty of knifemakers in the Louisville area who might help you out.

Currently talking with sterling in NY to see if they will supply us up here in the north with quench oils.... fingers crossed for an in state source for me... will be making a thread when I hear back about specifics

thank you for the reply's as a beginning knife maker i just wasn't wanting to spend all that money on shipping if i could get the quench oil locally so i guess canola oil it is im just worried about flair ups and it not quenching all the way but ill see how it goes thanks again for the advise

Just a heads up last time I checked Kelly had free shipping on orders over $100. Might want to check with him. An engineered quench oil will be much better than canola.

If your looking for something like Parks 50, chances are you're not going to find a better price than what Maxim sells it for, even after they add shipping costs. I haven't price checked their other quenchants, but they'll likely be able to provide you with any other type of quench for a reasonable price as well.
