where can i find someone to heat treat my 1/16 1095 fillet knife its 15 inches long and my forge isnt big enough to do it ill pay for shipping and your time for heat treating it

Mike, contact me for a price quote. I have an electric kiln and Parks #50 oil. I thermal cycle 3 times to refine grain before I harden and temper. All my contact info is in my sigline. Have you ground the bevels yet? When I work with thin stock I profile only before H/T and grind the bevels after H/T. This greatly reduces the chance of warping. If you have already ground the bevels I will do my best to keep it straight.

I think this is OK in Shop Talk, because it is a frequent question, but the replies should be kept to links and info, not offers and pricing. That type of stuff should be in The Exchange - Services Wanted.

No big problem Darrin, but I would suggest your post be the same with this one change:

Email me at www.darrinsanders8666@gmail.com and I'll give you the cost.

Peter's only does air hardening stuff, correct?

Mike Turner answered it, but of the ones makers here use and recommend often - Peters is the only one who does oil hardening
Their prices are pretty steep on a single piece to cover their fixed costs - which is why I also dropped Darrin's name too

Knifemaker.ca does oil hardening too, but shipping and crossing the border is a pain if you don't have to.

I apologize Stacy, I knew that but it didn't cross my mind. I will handle it the way you suggested from now on. Thanks for your patience.

No problem, and you did what most would have done. I pointed it out because I knew you would understand my caution, and others will see it.
Thanks for all you do here. It is guys like you that make this a great site.
