I need some steel.... Not really particular about what kind or size. Just making some kiridashi's. Does anyone know where I can get some small pieces (maybe under 3" long and 1" wide) for a reasonable price? If any of you have some extras lying around or scrap pieces I can buy them from you. Don't have alot but maybe we can work something out. If not please recommend a good website. Thanks guys!! I'm excited about getting into knife making.

The New Jersey steel baron sells 1095 for damascus that is pre cut to 12" That's as small as I can think of

The kind can make a huge difference.

If you're heat treating with a MAP torch then you should get 1080/1084 instead of 1095. Do a search about heat treating 1084 and read all of the stickies.
A MAP torch will work for very small blades but anything bigger than about an inch and a half of cutting edge and it gets difficult to heat evenly.

If you want short pieces that can be shipped in the smaller USPS Priority, which will save you money over buying the longer pieces sometimes, try Alpha Knife Supply. They're good people to do business with and a lot of their steel is cut short. I'd recommend their 1080. Easy to HT and very tough.

+ a zillion for Aldo and Chuck! They're both great people running true family businesses, and provide outstanding service and selection... you can't go wrong with either one. Give 'em a call and say we sent you. They will hook you up right.

n8swag send me an E-mail if you are ok with O-1, and I will sort some from the drop at the shop. You are welcome to it if you will pay shipping, (it will all fit in a usps flat rate box.) that is as long as no body can tell Aldo I killed a sale for him
