I hope to have my first knife ready for heat treat this week-end. My question is who do you guys recommend to do this for me. It is 1095 and I'm not going to even attempt the heat treat myself. My location is Alabama and I would like to use someone faily close as well. Thanks for any advice. This site has been a weath of knowledge and filled with those willing to help out!

You could look for a knife maker in your area that does their own heat treating. They may do it for you for pennies or even free. Other than that, look up Darrin Sanders here on Blade Forums. He's in Louisiana and is reasonable.

Peter's Heat treat in PA is another option.

Peters is a professional HT facility, and they do superb work. If you get twenty to fifty blades done, it is a great deal. However, they charge by the batch, with a minimum batch........If you get four done, it will cost the same as getting twenty done.
Most of the knife supply catalogs have a HT service offered, and Darren Sanders does a great job.

Thanks Stacy; I think I'm going to get Darren to do it. I sent him an e-mail and had a very quick response---plus from a quick search on BladeForums he comes highly recommended.

Very good choice. Post some pictures when you are done.

Thanks Will--and no I'm actually a Gators fan. I moved to Alabama from Lake Mary Florida but refuse to be disloyal to my Gators-lol. I do live fairly close to Auburn though. I live in Wadley. Its a small town about 45 miles North of Auburn.

Check with the Auburn forge council group. Their forge master was a guy named Shannon Hogg (i think) and he's been known to make a knife or 20. I live north of Montgomery but not really active now, I'm in the process of rebuilding my shop. I could talk to my buddy Charlie in Alex City, he does pretty good stuff with 1095.

I've not yet had any HT work done by Darrin Sanders, but he does indeed have a good reputation.

Nice to see you around Will! :)

Alex City would be great! It's about the same distance for me to either Alex City or Auburn. If you could provide either one's contact information I would greatly appreciate it!
