Hey everyone, I am in the middle of making a forge using the body of a mailbox (non-galvanized) I got from lowes. I cut the legnth to 14" but with two layers of against the back it is 12" long inside the chamber. Anyway I'm at a stall right now because I'm not sure where the best place would be to install my burner (side-arm venuri bruner from hightemptools) to get the most even heat and most efficiency. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Below I posted a few pics of my forge and a few with me holding the burner holder at different position on the forge to help you visuallize what I mean. If you could let me know which position # you believe would be best that would be great. Thanks! :)

edited to add ---(I should add that the forge is not finished yet. It will still be getting a coat of satinite, ITC-100, a cut out in the back for a pass through, fire bricks to make to front opening smaller, and I'll will be using 12" long X 3/4" thick (cut to correct width) kiln shelves I have as the forge floor. I will be doing general forge work, heat treating, and forge welding in this forge) Hope this helps!

I think between the thrird and fourth picture. On my forge I have it in the two or three oclock position with the flange cut at an angle blowing forward. it is mouted about one third or less forward of the back. Now my opinion is to round out that chamber dont have the floor so flat. Coat it out with min of 1/4 inch satinite or some refractory coating. I'm sure you know this but just wanted to mention it. rounding it out gives a nice vortex flow to it.

I'm sure if you ask Stacy or some of the other long time forgers they give you some good advice

My forge is also open in the back. But I do recall it being said that to get the most out of the Venturi it has to be some sort of cut out.

Hey thanks man. I am actuually not done with the forge yet. I will be using this forge to do general forge work in, Heat Treating, and to forge weld in so I bought a few kiln shelves that are 12" long and 3/4" thick (I'll cut them to width) to sit on the bottom that I can change for either welding, or HT-ing so I don't contaminate my blades with flux. I will line it with satinite, then ITC-100. I am also goin to cut a pass through door in the back and will be using fire bricks to make to front opening smaller. I am just waiting till I get the burner holder intalled to do all that, since it kinda the most important step I have left, when it comes to design decisions that is. I probably shoulda said all this in my original post, I knew i'd get critiques about this stuff lol. Thanks for the imput! :)

No no critiques with me friend. . Just making sure. Should be a real dragon when it's all done.

And Thanks Marko, I really hope it's at least semi-dragonish ;)
