I'm interested in learning about the various kinds of materials used for knife handles, fixed and folders, e.g., ivories, woods, minerals, etc.. I want to know how to recognize them and tell genuine from man-made, etc. Anyone know of some good references or web sites?

Check out the Glossary of Terms at the Knifecenter

Jumbi- do you ever check out the Shop Talk forum? Some very knowledgable, helpful folks over there that might be able to answer your question. www.eisenbran has some good pictures of exotic wood species.

Hi Jumbi,
At my Web-site I have a new section on "Handle Selection". It covers most of the exotic woods, horns, and Composite Gemstones.
