So I'm looking for a cool sword. Katana specifically. Problem is, Ihave no clue where to look for one. Can someone point me into the right direction? Like300 bucks, looks nice. Just for show (and maybe to intimidate my friends/brother lol)

If you're just looking for a sword for show, it doesn't matter what you buy. Get something cheap, and don't spend more than a hundred. If you want something quality, then you'll have different places to look. Do some googling. We aren't allowed to recommend sellers unless they're Blade Forums sponsors.

Check out Himalayan Imports here on BF. While not 100% correct to Japanese tradition they make affordable, beautiful, heavy duty swords. They run from $100-300.

They are not remotely katana like, but they are quality swords.

That one looks like a katana

Sorta. It's a katana shaped object, anyways. Real katana purists will say that it looks nothing like an actual katana, for a WIDE variety of reasons, ranging from the handle, tsuba, grind, etc. But those are still good swords. I've got one myself, that I rehandled in cocobolo. The balance is pretty awful, however.

Most relevant piece of information is now in red

Bad balance = bad sword

I am by no means a purist. I actually tend to prefer modern renditions of classic weapons, but if a sword is not well balanced, it will be slow. A slow sword is not a viable weapon. Even traditional claymores, for all that they are giant monstrous things as long as a man is tall, are well balanced and move well if you're strong enough

I suppose I should have said poor balance for a katana. But then, most of Busse's swords are poorly balanced in my estimation as well, but they are still great swords and choppers. The HI is balanced pretty forward, and handles more like the aforementioned claymore than a katana. But its still pretty fast if you have the wrists for it.

Have you ever held an AK47? I was absolutely blown away by how perfect the balance was

It's as well balanced as my katanas and MUCH faster

Yup. I have. The balance was awful for me. And your perspective isnt the same as an actual iado or kendo practitioner would have with respect to balance.

I would personally recommend Ronin Katana, Kris Cutlery, Dynasty Forge, Hanwei or Hung Shing T.S. They are the powerhouses for the 300 range of blades. They are more for use than looks, if you just want to hang it on your wall type katana into ebay, it wont really matter what it is as long as you like the look of it.

That thing @Dirtbiker posted couldn't be further from a Katana unless it was a machete (but even then.... lol). Looks much more Chinese, the blade geometry is the ONLY thing that resembles a Katana.

The katana I recommend is made out of steel that is cold (cant say actual names) (CS)

If you had some bucks to spend I would say Wally Hayes is your man.

Considering he wanted something for $300 and also a Katana not a euro sword? How is he a good choice at all?

Sorry to sound rude but thats like saying 'I suggest you get on a plane and travel to Japan, there you can track down a famous sword smith to commission you a katana... Better yet break into a museum, they have plenty there just waiting for you.'

Dude look at The new condor katana for 2013 looks pretty cool, sturdy, and only 209. Almost 100 bucks cheaper Than what u wanted to spend go to their web site condor tool and knife under their sword section

i don't believe condor has a katana in their lineup. A link or picture would be very helpful here

That Condor thing is also not a Katana. Appart from the Saya being leather, totally 'tacticool' tsuka and a black blade, its more of a Ko-Katana being 20 inches blade length.. OP can you specify if you actually want a Katana or a katana shaped sword?
