Every piece I have ordered recently has been bent and or twisted. Not just small bend, talking messed up. I just dont have the know how to fix twists yet.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Ive ordered alot of 1084 from Aldo as well and never had any bent stuff come in

My last batch did come with a distinct bend. But not Aldo's fault. Obviously UPS had been tough on this package as it was broke open and taped shut. Takes about as much time to straighten it as it did to type this.

All of my orders have been from Aldo. He has great reviews here, but kinda disappointed. Horse- how do you fix a bend that quickly ha? =) Thanks for the replies so far, Ill give alpha a try

Tin.Man, 1084 is meant to be a forging steel, which is why more care isn't taken to make sure it is dead flat. I don't think you'll find any high carbon steel except O1 that is perfectly flat. Even then, Precision Ground O1 still has warps and bows in it. I've never seen any piece of steel from any supplier that comes perfectly flat. That's why one of the steps to making a knife is for the maker to flatten it himself. Even PG stainless will have twists, warps, and bows in it that must be taken out by the maker.

If your steel was bent it may not have left Aldo that way. I ordered some stainless and brass tubing from a different source but UPS MANGLED the package (and the contents). The supplier re-sent the order. It arrived bent again, thanks UPS. I finally had to have the tubing cut into much shorter lengths and sent for a 3rd time in order for a smaller package to arrive without damage. UPS is not the way to go if you want your orders to show up in good shape.

I have had to straighten most of the steel I have (usually less than 1/8" bow over the length of the blade, excepting the precision ground O1 I picked up from the steel supplier locally.) Clamp it in a three point jig, hit it with a hammer, heat it and pull it straight, surface grind it etc. There are a lot of quick and easy ways to get steel straight.

I straighten each piece as needed. After I cut off the piece I need, I just put it between two blocks and tap with a hammer to get the bow out. I check on a surface plate. Really no time at all.
