I am not looking to sell any knives right now but have been collecting for years and have had a few opportunities to get some rather nice knives over the years from some pretty well know knife makers some have done documentaries on TV, some have won forged in fire, and even one of the makers has been named a National Living Treasure. I bought all the knifes new from the makers with a few I managed to win a in raffles (one of the raffles I just flat out bought because it was alot cheaper then trying to buy the knife directly). When I finally(if ever) do deside to start selling some of the knives I have collected. Where would be the best place to do so? Here or should I go to a dealer with them and the paper work I have for them. Some, I have no idea what they would be worth I know a few of the makers have multiple years wait and some of the pieces I paid thousands for and appears that they are only getting harder to obtain. I personally have had a hard time finding anything similar even listed for sale to get a idea of what the resale value would be the few I have found have been pretty simple versions and didn't have alot of the higher end materials used in them. Btw sorry if I I have posed this in the wrong location or am doing something incorrectly been a reader for years but never commented or posted before. Thanks in advance

If I were in your shoes I think I might be tempted to try one of the knife purveyors, that is guys that sell knives for a living. You will pay them a fee but they will know the market and have contacts that can help unload particularly valuable pieces. Don't be surprised if some knives sell for less than you expect. The market is fickle. Knives that were only available by lottery a few years ago may now sell only with a deep discount etc. knives are a terrible investment in general.

As long as the items are being sold as practical knives, they can be sold here. If what you have is deep into the art knife range then the market is very thin and you will need a specialist with intimate knowledge of the market for those top 100 makers and access to that handful of elite collectors.

Take a look at ArizonaCustomKinves.com, they move a wide range of knives. Beyond that you may be looking at the Art Knives Invitational Show

or

the better known auction houses.

But, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to list them here. But, if you want to lighten someone from a significant amount of money, it would be in your interest to establish yourself here as a reputable member.

Definitely good thoughts as well. I've noticed that really expensive knives rarely sell here. There just aren't enough people with the kind of money it takes I guess. Can you sell things in the 50 - 500 dollar range? Yes, and fairly easily depending on what it is. Once you get above that the market starts to narrow and once you get above 2000 dollars most people are window shopping only.

If you have anything made by Don Hanson, I would be interested…especially if you have a Pirates Folder…

Oh! To the O.P.: Welcome to the Forum! You'll find a lot of really "sharp" folks in here! 😁

This is not the place to post "knives wanted" or inquire about knives for sale. Let's follow forum guidelines.

I collect exceedingly valuable custom knives and would never allow Arizona Custom Knives to sell them - ever. They proved to me they knew nothing about one of the top ten makers of all time when they listed and sold one of the maker's daggers for a little over $3000 - which within a year I sold for about 10k. They had no idea of the maker's values. If you want to sell very high end knives, go to Paul Shindler at Knife Legends or Dave Harvey at Nordic Knives. They have the most experience selling high end knives, by far........

And while I will occasionally sell something minor on BF in the Customs for Sale, it is pretty much dead to very high end custom knives.

Thanks for the feed back. it started with me wanting to compair known smith's work against my own and just kinda snowballed lol. I should have stuck to collecting watches 😂 but I do still enjoy it and lately kinda wanting to order a rockstead and see how it's fit and finish is cause I have heard good things.

My apologies should this have been posted under the sale section?
No, you're fine. All buying, selling and trading is limited to the sub-forums in the exchange. One of our members shouldn't have asked in this thread whether you had a particular knife and whether you'd be willing to sell it. We have a "Knives Wanted" section for that.

Thank you for supporting the site.

(Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in the site.)

If you’re having AZCK sell a knife for you, you set the price, not them.

That was NEVER my experience, lol. Perhaps things have changed. At least they took MY advice on how they should have been pricing one of the top 10 makers of all time, something they knew nothing about. Maybe that's why many of the prices do not reflect current market pricing, but rather some now being very inflated, with reduction after the reduction? In either case, I would never recommend them for very high end knives.................
