I am glad the Count responded as that would have my basic reply also. I did a bunch of research years ago and realized it was another rabbit hole for me to get lost in! The real issue with self-prepared bone is fat left in the bone which eventually works out of the bone. Improper techniques may also result in the bone slowly detiorating over time. Basically, one must have museum quality preparation of the bone to prevent those possibilities. Can bone be stabilized? I don't know. If I were a well known maker with a five year wait list (I am at the other end of the bell curve!) making a one off piece needing something very special, then that might be a possibility.
