Where to start with customs?

Have you considered Talonite Chimera by Deryk Munroe? For 350.00 USD it is the cheapest talonite folder you can get (custom folder).

David,
Deryk isn't taking orders for the Chimera right now has he has an 8 month backlog! (I know, I emailed him about getting one yesterday)! You CAN find a few at BladeGallery - They have a righty Carbon Fiber in stock (They HAD 2, guess where the other will be as soon as the mail gets here <g>)

<snip>Also along the same lines as a sebenza would be one of the more expensive William Henry knives, but they're usually more flashy and I'm looking for a good looking but useable piece of equipment <snip>

Look at Jeff Hall knives! An up and coming maker (when I got mine 6 months ago, no one had heard of him, now I see him all over the place), who does REALLY nice work

A small FANCY Model 2 is my current every day carry, but it's really too nice for ROUGH work, so I'm about to supplement it with a Chimera. A model 2 with Carbon fiber or G10 or whatever would be a good every day knife.

I'm gonna have to put in a vote on the TNT. I have a large on order, and the ones I saw at Blade Show were awesome. You might also consider a Walter Brend folder... I'm not sure if he is still taking orders on it, but it might just be worth a phone call. He makes a Ti handled, 154-CM Blade folder that is quite nice. I'll try to get a review up when my dad and I get ours:) I have another folder by Walter, it's a way dressed up version of his standard folder, and am in love with it, the action is glassy smooth, the lockup is superb, and the knife is just simply beautiful.

I can really relate to your problem I just went through it late last year. I had the design for my first custom knife, I had the stag for the scales the only thing I didn't have was the maker. Once I decided I wanted the knife I didn't want to wait too long before I had it in my hands, a wait of 6 months wasn't an option. I had a short list of possible makers, Keith Coleman was high on that list. I got real lucky because of Chat I started talking to Art Washburn about the knife. I sent over my drawings and within minutes Art sent me back his ideas on it. I had heard great things about Art's work. but had never held one of his knives. Having quick access to him was what helped me make the decision. I must have caught Art at just the right time because although I was hoping to have the knife by my birthday in Jan. he actually finished the knife for me before Christmas. Start to finish in less than a month, amazing. I finally got to meet Art at Blade Show, one hell of a nice guy. That knife has been my EDC since I got it. At Blade I was able to add my second custom folder a Carson model 4 with Stellite and Stag, now I have two customs as my EDC. These two knives have ruined me for a while, I'm not even looking at other custom liner locks.

If Art Washburn isn't on your list you really need to take a look. ;)
