well if I were you I would try to find a knife maker locally who could HT it for you, you could probably get a good deal and they might even do it for free. another option would be peters heatreat in PA but that is gonna run you about $20 for one knife plus shipping.

A lot of makers/smiths love helping people but a lot of basic questions get asked a lot. Try finding the answer yourself. If you don't understand the info you find or you just ant find the answer then we'd be happy to explain things further.
BTW, it's nice finding free materials but decent steel (1084) is so cheap that you really should buy some rather than use that file. When you send a knife to heat treat theyll want to know what steel it is so they can treat it properly. Do you know for sure what that file is made of? One thing I learned is once you finish a knife and total up all the hours of hard work spending $8 on some good steel seems insignificant.
